Pre-race routine:

drove from Nevada to hotel day before, arrived at midnight. stayed at Sheraton. woke up around 5:45, sleepy. took a hot bath. drank water. friend showed up. stretched. went and had breakfast. ate too much. drove to the race. got a bit lost. found it. running low on time. registered.
Event warmup:

got in lake to get used to water. swam just a bit.
Swim
  • 16m 41s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

This SUCKED. In the beginning I got knocked around, bumped into people. couldn't concentrate. used way too much energy. ran out of breath quick. then couldn't swim normal. treated a bit of water, then resorted to backstroke. had to use backstroke almost the entire time. couldn't breathe. this was horrible
What would you do differently?:

EVERYTHING. first, learn how the hell to swim in this environment. also, need to figure out how to breathe better.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

not so great at this. barely remember it too - in a blur. sat down to get wetsuit off.
What would you do differently?:

not really sure.
Bike
  • 51m 52s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 17.25 mile/hr
Comments:

not bad. this course went twice around. wasn't labeled well so I almost didn't figure it out. 1st time around i used the easy gears too much. 2nd time around i stuck to harder gears, which was better. i have good leg muscles so i should take advantage of that by using harder gears, even on hills.
What would you do differently?:

see above.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

i don't think i know how to do this very well.
What would you do differently?:

not sure.
Run
  • 26m 7s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

thought i had a good run; faster than my training paces. had new shoes (Nikes) which helped. they ran fast. also, all the training on multiview in the hills helped a lot since people walked the hills on this run but i was able to keep running. even sprinted it home at the very end with the guy next to me.
What would you do differently?:

not much.
Post race
Warm down:

my first race. too busy in shock to do anything. drank water. should probably stretch ASAP though.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

sucking at swimming, not being used to this, not knowing about the best way to bike.

Event comments:

don't have anything to compare this to yet but seemed pretty good overall. and nice t-shirt design!
