Comments:

after panicking in Rockford this summer, I played it cautious. I started outside, however once I saw a clear line to the first buoy, I manuevered to it and actually followed the buoy line to the finish. Felt calm and in control the whole swim. Problem getting up the sand hill and running on the concrete due to foot injury - had to just walk up and into transition. I felt good about the actual ^^swim^^ time.
What would you do differently?:

Be a little more aggressive....
Transition 1
  • 05m 51s
Comments:

Due to a foot injury, there was no way I could run with the bike - took my time in transition. Hill start, so played it cautious on the bike start. There was a little traffic at the start, too.
What would you do differently?:

experience in big races will help.
Bike
  • 3h 09m 32s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.73 mile/hr
Comments:

My garmin came loose right from the start - I had to put it in my pocket. So the entire ride I didn't know mileage or cadence or speed. I need that to keep from getting lazy. Course well marked, volunteers were awesome, felt teh four Egels and water/Perform were adequate. Felt good on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Be more aggressive, secure Garmin better! When I started triathlon, the bike was my weakest sport - felt comfortable (but maybe too comfortable)
Transition 2
  • 07m 15s
Comments:

procrastinated, stop to pee, stop to fill water bottle all in transition. I knew the run was going to be painful
What would you do differently?:

wait until first water stop for fluids. don't procrastinate and just get out there
Run
  • 2h 47m 23s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

ten days before the race, I avoided an accident on the bike trail, however in doing so, I yank my left foot out of my cleats and damaged the fascia layer in my foot under the ball of my foot. Had xray to make sure there wasn't a stress fracture. Every single step, and I'm not exaggerating, hurt like hell. I knew this going into the race, and was unwilling to DNF or DNS. So while I normally would say listen to your body, I chose to suck it up and just get through it the best I could. My typical 13.1 time would be around 2:05, but I knew that shuffle/walk, whatever I could get it done. Fortunately the slower pace kept my HR down and I didn't suffer from the heat.
What would you do differently?:

not run injured....
Post race
Warm down:

medical tent - lots and lots of ice on foot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

foot injuries
lack of confidence/experience

Event comments:

The volunteers spectacular - it was a tough day for athletes, but seeing volunteers out there in the heat all day was a bright spot for me. Meeting so many first-timers, and talking with veteran's sure made this event a great experience. Wasn't crazy about transition/start area being so far from expo/checking, but I didn't know what else to expect.
