Total Time = 6h 40m 34s
Overall Rank = 771/1063
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 88/115
Event warmup:

Swam a little. Maybe 100yrds total.
Swim
  • 43m 48s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

A little overcome by nerves on the first 500yrds. Goggles were dislodged and could not find a space to swim. Lots of contact with others. Last 750 yards were OK. Got into a rhythm, found my stroke and got it done. Navigation was tough, could not see. Going out was directly into the sun.
What would you do differently?:

Tinted goggles. More warm up and arrive in time the day before for the practice swims.
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

I'm getting better with this. Suit came off relatively easy, everything set up and ready. I had remembered to leave the bike in an easy gear!
What would you do differently?:

Just move faster.
Bike
  • 3h 30m 32s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.96 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a humbling experience. Definitely need to train for the climbing if I am to do this again.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. Given my training and the course, this was as good as it was going to get.
Transition 2
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Transition seems to be the discipline that I am improving at the most! Did have a little difficulty finding the rack. Rev3 does great with this. The spaces are assigned and labeled with your name. Also the rack is a wooden box on the ground for your rear wheel, no trying to have the bike and banging into other bikes. This was the most organized, best transition area I have ever seen. I did get 50 feet away from the bike and realized I forgot race belt and had to retrieve it.
What would you do differently?:

Put the race belt on immediately.
Run
  • 2h 19m 7s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I set out thinking that I could go sub 2hrs on this run (my best open HM is 1:46). I kept a 9min/mi pace for about 6 miles, then had to give it up. The hills were just too much for me. The last 5 were a run/walk combination.
What would you do differently?:

Go slower than my goal would suggest in the first half, then see if I could dial it up.
Post race
Warm down:

Stop moving, sit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of training.

Event comments:

This is a great race with very picturesque bike and run courses. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge.
