Total Time = 3h 53m 53s
Overall Rank = 105/110
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 3/4
Pre-race routine:

Showered, made/ate a 'green monster' smoothie, drove to the venue.
Event warmup:

Set up my gear and got dressed--then wandered to the swim start; paddled around for a bit and tried to find people to joke with---I have found that having some good laughs helps me dispel some of my nervousness (Which has been becoming more of an issue...)
Swim
  • 39m 25s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

It wasn't a bad swim--my breathing was better than any other swim I have done before--whether in racing OR a workout. It was just SLOW. The thing is, I only got slower when I HAD to stop twice--once cause I coughed down some water by surprise, and then again when my swim cap tried to get magically smaller...but both stops were for less than 10 seconds...I was very constant, and my navigation was AMAZING--I didn't go anywhere near off course--and I usually veer a little bit.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, apart from getting a LOT more swim time. I am happy with how the swim went, and especially my breathing, it was only the slowness that bothered me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Decent transition--my suit was very cooperative for once.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was good.
Bike
  • 1h 42m 54s
  • 40 kms
  • 23.37 km/hr
Comments:

All in all, the bike wasn't bad...I was actually making good time until I rode into the park (the first and last 2 miles are on park grounds.)--Those last two were all at a decent ascent, and I was a bit tired. I still am not disappointed with it.
What would you do differently?:

Get more bike time in. I have fallen off of that wagon a lot this season. That needs to change. I am just bored with cycling of late.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

All good.
What would you do differently?:

nothing...I am happy.
Run
  • 1h 31m 34s
  • 10 kms
  • 09m 09s  min/km
Comments:

I was too hot. It caught up with me in the last two miles...not to the point of being dangerous, but just that I was not really able to run...I think it was a little too much sun for me. At mile 3, I managed to get some decent time, but at about 4.5, I was stuck in a walk run cycle---with a lot of walking.
What would you do differently?:

Carry some water, and maybe figure some way to get an icy bandanna? I was really warm, but not beyond help. Maybe a run along sherpa with a sunshade to hold over me?
Post race
Warm down:

Chatted with a friend at the finish while both dumping cold water over my head and drinking another cup of water. Also checking with the race folk as I had passed a lady who did NOT look well(she told me to keep going while she struggled, luckily, we were very close to the aid station)--I told the aid station to keep an eye out for her--they did get her off the course. I then cheered on the last few runners in (I always hate that there is little to no amount of folks around to cheer when the last racers make it in.) I then drove to SF for a BBQ. Unfortunately, I neglected to partake in the post race food that was offered....stupid me. I am still tuckered out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat. The usual lack of training. I also was lacking the "killer instinct" for competition---I really did not care about trying to compete, I actually just wanted to do the race rather then "compete", so I didn't push myself that hard.

Event comments:

TBF does some good races; they also do some 'meh' races. This one is squarely between. Its a decent race, but not all that different then their "Tri For Real" Olympic distance races, except that it is USAT sanctioned...maybe if they added a medal.
Overall, I do truly enjoy the venue. I just wish that the road would get resurfaced maybe more than once every hundred years. and a tree or two on the run could help too.
Maybe I am just bored with the races there and want something changed about them. I am serious about the road though...not pleasant.
