Overall Rank = 179/700?
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 45/74
Pre-race routine:

I ate my usual PB and Banana on whole wheat bread about an hour before the race. I had enough time to use the Porto-potty before the lines started (thank god!).
Event warmup:

I did some light stretching after getting my wet-suit on and before jumping in the water. I know now that I must warm up more before the swim!
Swim
  • 34m 23s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

I need to focus more on open water swimming. I do really well in the pool but once I get to the open water I struggle. Need to also work on warming up more before the race to get comfortable in the water.
What would you do differently?:

I need to warm up more as I cant get comfortable unless I swim for a while!
Transition 1
  • 03m 52s
Comments:

Getting my wetsuit off was slightly challenging. TriSlide helped a bunch.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on getting wetsuit off faster. Also transition area felt really cluttered. Need to work on having only what I need out.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 33s
  • 50 miles
  • 41.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good. Started taking in nutrition on the bike which went really well. Really digging the UCAN stuff.
What would you do differently?:

Need to focus more training in the big ring.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

The run back to T2 was slightly long due to where I racked my bike. I also ended up running down the wrong lane! But managed to find my way back quickly. Shoes came on quick and I was so focused on starting the run that I forgot my salt pills!
What would you do differently?:

Need to focus more on racking my bike, a little to careful which cost extra seconds.
Run
  • 49m 33s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I cramped early and had to stop for a minute. I reached back for my salt pills and they were not there. Me and this 17 year old kid settled in behind another athlete and he paced us all the way in. I tried to take the finish but realized there was still a few yards to go with a nasty hill towards the end and gassed out. My running buddies laughed and finished before me. Good laughs and high fives all around with my new pals.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my salt pills.
Post race
Warm down:

At lots of food. Also realized my foot was cut but didn't feel it until the end!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming. Must get more comfortable in the water and forget about the swim once exiting the water. Holding on to a poor swim is my weakness.

Event comments:

A great race. Would do it again for sure. Special thanks to all the volunteers!

Overall: 412/700?
Performance: Average
Suit: Blue Seventy
Course: The course was OK. Super shallow in some spots. Was nice if you are not a strong swimmer as you could put your feet down and rest for a while. Exiting the swim was challenging due to having to wade through the shallow water for a few hundred yards. I didn't get comfortable until I made the turn around the buoy.

Course: The course was relatively flat. Slightly pitchy in some sections, forcing some people to get out of the saddle and hammer down! Saw many people drafting (a huge no-no) and people passing in the posted "no passing" zones. I guess I am a sucker for the rules. Some of the roads were extremely bumpy, causing my hands to be slightly fatigued by the end of the ride.
