Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am, don't remember sleeping at all, but I did drop the mother load so that was good. Woofed down an energy bar and got on the bus. No one was saying too much, but there was this guy with an ipod on so loud it could be heard thoughout the bus. I remember thinking, I wonder just what heck is going on in his head.
Event warmup:

I didn't really do much. I dreaded getting in the water but I remember when I did my pratice swims there it was actually quite nice. So I took the plunge and splashed about and got adjusted to the water and was GTG.
Swim
  • 47m 39s
  • 1900 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Though my time is nothing to brag about, it was a better time than I expected. I drifted too wide on the last bouy by about 30m, this cost me a couple of minutes Im sure. Also there was this guy who kept bursting ahead of me then switched to a breast stroke and kept kicking me when he did this.If I moved left, so did he, if I moved right, so did he. For such a big lake it was like he was blocking all of it.
What would you do differently?:

Do more interval sessions, work on my triceps more.
Transition 1
  • 06m 43s
Comments:

Took my time while trying to hurry. The majority of the time was making sure everthing was stuffed into a plastic bag.
What would you do differently?:

Use a smaller towel that is easier to stuff into a plastic bag.
Bike
  • 3h 15m 6s
  • 94 kms
  • 28.91 km/hr
Comments:

So Im peddling away at comfortable pace and this dude comes up behind me and says, yah another one in my group im passing. Well good for you buddy, your hero of the day. Theres a fine line between hero and zero.

Again it was nothing to brag about, but good time for me. I also thought it was done at 90k mark, but it just kept going and going, then finally DONE!
What would you do differently?:

more hill repeats
Transition 2
  • 05m 21s
Comments:

I just basically stopped and got off and walked and racked my bike and eat a bar then went pee.
What would you do differently?:

More hill traing, more run after biking training
Run
  • 2h 26m 15s
  • 21.08 kms
  • 06m 56s  min/km
Comments:

Did the running room trick, ran 10min walk 1 min, it worked out good.It was only 45min slower than my fastest half/marathon
What would you do differently?:

more hill traing, I quit doing the stairs in the river valley cause there was too many run groups plugging up the whole systems
Post race
Warm down:

ate pizza and had coffee

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Its not always about being as fast as you can, it also about the spirit of the event.

Event comments:

I just tried to complete the race without killing myself and not leaving myself too sore, which worked good cause I felt good the next day. Sometimes you just have to slow down and enjoy the event, because when its over, its over. Also I didn't see anyone handing out T-shirts when I finished so I didn't get one,but I did buy some other stuff this hippee guy was selling. Theres seems to be 500 people missing from who signed up and who finished. Where did these people go?
