Pre-race routine:

Wake up way too early... 2:45ish...
Breakfast and walk the dogs.
Event warmup:

Bike rack was broken and would not support bikes so had to find RD to fix. This took 30 mins. Went to find bathroom and waited too long in line.
Usally like to run 10-20 mins stretch and swim.
Only got the swim in 5-10 mins. Enough to check goggles.

this is my first 1/2 Iron and I wanted to take it easy and relax during the swim. I have never had a wetsuit. Maybe next year. I was one of 4 in my wave without a wetsuit. Plans for off season is to take swim lessons this off season

enroll in masters swim class.

I wanted to make sure I put my sunscreen on.... wait why is it not on my shoes... crap where is that bottle...
For some reason doing my pre swim sun screen application I put it in my transition bag. Bad move. Took 20 seconds to locate and lather up... small price to pay to prevent burn.... but worth it!

make doubly sure that Everything is where it needs to be in transition.

Stopped at the bathroom immediatly outside of Transition area to go pee. took 1.5 mins

Warm down:

walked 5-10 mins.
Stretched, drank water.
Waited for the wife to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat and training on the bike.

Event comments:

I will be looking foward to doing this race next year. I really fell in love with the distance and I think I can improve greatly in time.

This being my first 1/2 Iron Distance I really wanted to take it easy. I felt really crummy the first 5 miles and really took it easy. After seeing my HR data It shows it was really high the first 5 miles. Nerves, anixety? who knows but I got into a grove after some GU kicked in and i relaxed and enjoyed the ride.
