Swim
Comments: Had a good start and stayed on the inside and out of most of the croud. After the first bouy I got caught in the croud and was stuck there for most of the outward leg. Water was very choppy and made navigation difficult. I went off course and the paddle boards had to redirect me back on course. Inward leg was much calmer and I was able to start drafting at that point. What would you do differently?: Change my breakfast. Even through I ate 2 hours before the race I had eat to much and was to full during the race. Otherwise just learn to swim faster and draft better. Transition 1
Comments: Had a hard time running up the long boat ramp after the swim cost me time. Also this was my first really big tri so it took a little more time than I thought to get to my bike rack. Also it was the first time in a race that I went without socks on the ride. Getting wet feet into shoes was harder than I thought it would be. What would you do differently?: Practice doing swim-run bricks to get use to long boat ramps and big tranistion areas. Going back to wearing socks on the Bike. Bike
Comments: Had stomach problems from the swim so I was not able to eat or drink on the ride. Practiced on Lynch Hill but it was still really hard after just finishing the swim. Watch out for others on the ride. I saw a lot of bad bicycle behavior out on the course. What would you do differently?: More hill training can never hurt. Have 2 different types of mutrition on the bike incase you can't stomach one type. Transition 2
Comments: Again going from no socks caused time delays because my foot was sweaty and stuck to the bike shoes and then would not go into the running shoe. Forgot race belt but since I had many body number markings it was not that big of a deal What would you do differently?: Wear socks Remember my belt Run
Comments: Since I did not eat or drink on the bike I BONKed at the 1K mark and had to go to a run/shuffle/walk until the top of the big hill at about 6K mark. Finally got cooled off enough (thanks to the cal-poly volunteers hosing us down) that I could start run. What would you do differently?: Work on hydration and nutrition. More practice on big hill running. Post race
Warm down: walking and and streetching What limited your ability to perform faster: upset stomach from the rough swim so that I could not eat or drink until half way thru the run. Event comments: I was suprised by the post race food and drink. I have been to a number of smaller races that did a much better job at it. This was the only negitive thing that I would say about this race. Last updated: 2010-03-04 12:00 AM
