Swim
Comments: I felt good during the swim. I started last and on the outside and passed many in my group and a few in the couple groups ahead of me. Next Tri, need to start in the front. What would you do differently?: Start in the front and try to get out faster. I think I could have knocked a couple minutes off my time if I started in front and didn't have to deal w/ winding thru people. Transition 1
Comments: Long run up a hill from the water into transition. A bit of foreshadowing for the rest of course. My transition actually went better than it has previously. Wore my Tri-Tank under my wetsuit for the first time, which helped. I took the time to put my Garmin on. What would you do differently?: Still need to improve. Bike
Comments: Wow. I just started doing Tri's about 8 months ago and this was my first Olympic. Not only that, every Tri I've done has been pretty flat. Not the case here. Started off straight up hill for a mile. Just about killed me, but got my legs and actually felt pretty good the rest of the bike. I felt like I was either going 7 mph or 35 mph; not a whole lot in between. I thought the bike was tough until I got to the run. In retrospect, the bike was a cakewalk compared to the run! What would you do differently?: Needed to train on hills. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Rough Run. I started off OK and my legs actually felt good after the bike. The first 1.5 miles went fine. The next 3.5 miles felt like they were straight up hill. I walked all of the steep hills, including a good 8-10 min stretch. I honestly felt if I ran those portions I would have passed out, so I walked as fast as I could. There were many others walking w/ me. Felt great getting the 5 Mi mark and knowing that it was all down hill from there. Post race
Warm down: Saw my wife and tried to get out to her w/out going thru the exit. She went to the exit and we lost each other for about 45 min, which sucked! After I packed up transition we hung out at the festival and ate like pigs. Had a Rib Platter, a Burrito as big as my head, and a few slices of pizza. Healthy stuff! But I felt justified What limited your ability to perform faster: I trained, but did not train on hills. Need to train on hills next time I decide to do this. Event comments: Great Experience. Would do it again w/ a little more prepartation and training. Last updated: 2010-05-01 12:00 AM

First Olympic Tri:
Camped the night before. Woke up early and hung out in the tent for awhile. Ate a Banana and a Power Bar and headed down to transition around 7:00. Specialized tuned my bike up, then I set up transition, and then hung out w/ my wife at the festival and the church service for a while. My wife was able to hang out w/ me right up until my wave went off. Very Relaxing.
Right before my wave went off I hopped in the water and swum around a bit. Water felt fine.
