Pre-race routine:

First Tri for me - didn't get any sleep - up and ready to go at 4:30 AM.
Event warmup:

Stretching, short run while I waited for my start time.
Swim
  • 09m 1s
  • 300 yards
  • 03m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swimming is not my thing and I didn't put a ton of effort into improving myself. I came in 4th from last in the swim - about where I expected to be. Next Tri I'll have to get serious and put some time in in the pool.
What would you do differently?:

PRACTICE
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Aside from my wet jersey getting stuck on my back (and me flailing around trying to pull it down), my first transition went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Might wear my tri top in the pool - it's dry mesh and wouldn't impact the swim, plus it would eliminate the problem of putting it on.
Bike
  • 40m 49s
  • 12.67 miles
  • 18.62 mile/hr
Comments:

I passed approx 50 people on the bike and never was passed myself. I've ridden the course many times, knew where to rest, where to drink and when to put down the hammer.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - I was pleased with my ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

In and out pretty quickly - no complaints on T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 29m 31s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Way off of my PR for a 5K but my legs were jello coming off the bike. I had done a few bricks but clearly not enough. Oddly enough, I ended up walking twice on two different hills and my time wasn't horrible.
What would you do differently?:

BRICKS - lots of them and more than just 5 miles on the bike with a 1 mile run.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink, drink, drink, relax.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not prepared for the swim, maybe too fast on the bike, not enough brick workouts.

Event comments:

A fun first tri for me - I really enjoyed it and will plan on doing more next year. I definitely will work to improve my swimming and will also do more brick workouts.
