Age Group Rank = 73/99
Pre-race routine:

Drove down nice and early. Parked easy and spent time walking around, fueling up and setting up transition.
Event warmup:

Nothing much, as usual.
Swim
  • 17m 25s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt pretty good considering my sparse swim training. No issues with the wet suit, and I think the pre-soaks I've been doing are really a difference maker with my shoulder issues. Felt steady and even throughout.
What would you do differently?:

Just swim more than 3 times before the race. As usual, I'm giving away free time on this leg.
Transition 1
  • 03m 33s
Comments:

Okay transition. Still nothing special, but fine.
What would you do differently?:

Someday learn the tricks, like feet on shoes, etc.
Bike
  • 56m 40s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. A bit more hills than I expected. Having not been down there before, I sort of expected a flat seaside course. Actually liked the hills better; make it more interesting. A bit slow getting out, but was happy with everything but my first ever mechanical. I slipped the chain on an uphill due to an overly aggressive double shift, and lost at least a minute (probably 2) stopping, putting back the chain, and getting back up to speed on the uphill.
What would you do differently?:

Not shift crazy on that uphill.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Pretty good transition for me. Just slipped on the Zoots, grabbed a sip, and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 58m 7s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Moderately disappointed with how I felt on this. Picked a pace that was slower than I'd hoped, but was strong of mind on this one and keep it the full race long. I'd love to say that pace was faster, and my time shorter, but I had a much better mental run than usual.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train at a higher tempo. I'm running a lot, but it's really just slow jogging that's not moving the needle enough to run like others in my AG.
Post race
Warm down:

Standard walk about; grabbed a yummy beer, and jumped on the convenience shuttle to the start.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run. I've spend a lot of time on it, but I need to change my training approach. I could also pick up a few minutes with even fleeting attention to the swim.

Event comments:

Good race, well run, nice course all around. Would do again.
