Pre-race routine:

Breakfast: yogurt, protein powder, cottage cheese. Banana on the drive
Up early for 35 minute drive to Pleasanton
Stretched before getting in water
Event warmup:

Water temp was warmer than the air temp so I got in about 20 minutes before my wave and swam and hung out to stay warm
Swim
  • 08m 22s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Meh. Felt fine but couldn't get my head into the race in the swim. Crowded wave but no particular difficulties. Had to slow and swim around a couple people doing the breast stroke - wide berth to avoid being kicked.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing; fine performance for a fun, weekend event
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Not sure why this took so long when I didn't even have a wetsuit to remove.
What would you do differently?:

More Hussle.
Bike
  • 28m 13s
  • 11 miles
  • 23.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Very well marked and marshalled course that seemingly manages to be a slight decline about 70% of the time. My first race (and 3rd ride) on the Blue and I can say that having a tri bike is going to be FUN!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

There was a kid next to me going through her T1 when I came into T2. Really great to see kids getting into triathlon - she was probably 10 or 11. We talked about how the swim went and wished each other luck on the race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 26m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice course. A few rolling hills, none too steep or too long; just enough variation to keep the run interesting. I haven't done anything except Aquajog since Vineman 1/2 so I wasn't sure how this would go. Just found a comfortable pace and stuck with it. Overall, I'm pleased. Felt the hamstring a bit and was glad I scheduled a p.t. appointment for this week. Just not completely healing on its own.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Under the circumstances this was more than I'd hoped for.
Post race
Warm down:

Orange slices! Water! Cheering the other participants across the finish line!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wasn't a race I was planning to "race" and didn't get into it until the bike. Hamstring injury still nagging.

Event comments:

On Your Mark Events does a good job. They are slow to post results when they time running races but their overall organization of the event is always flawless in my experience.
