Total Time = 1h 39m 5s
Overall Rank = 401/600
Age Group = 60-64
Age Group Rank = 13/18
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early had a donut some and coffee. I left my motel room early and was one of the 1st people in the transition area. I picked a spot at the very end of the bike rack which allowed me more room.
Event warmup:

A little stretching, light calisthenics and into the water for a few minutes before my wave went out.
Swim
  • 10m 55s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

I started near the back and passed alot of people on the first leg. A little jam up at the first buoy. After the first buoy it was pretty much clear and open swimming. I swam until my hands touched bottom and ran to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a bit faster, I had plenty left when I came out of the water. My practice pace is fater.
Transition 1
  • 04m 30s
Comments:

I fell at the mounting line.
What would you do differently?:

Get more momentum before mounting. I should have clipped my left foot in first because the left first works best for me.
I'm going to practice feet on top of shoes method for my next race.
Bike
  • 51m 11s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I held back some on the bike. I also got hemmed in a couple of times due to heavy congestion.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train more and harder on the bike. I really need improvement on the bike leg.
Transition 2
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Not too bad but I need practice and improvement in this area.
What would you do differently?:

I'm going to try both mounting and dismounting with feet on top of shoes. I'm sure if I practice this method it will improve my time.
Run
  • 29m 38s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Really not a bad run for me.
What would you do differently?:

I should have opened up a bit earlier and harder. I still need to do more bike to run work-outs.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for a few minutes, then rested about 10 minutes. After resting I stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need more speed sessions. I must not fall off my bike again. I need more practice on transitions. I need a better mounting and dismounting technique. I need to do more bike to run sessions.

Event comments:

I beat last years time by 5 minutes.
I love this race and hope to be back next year. I might even try the Olympic.
I burnt 1547 calories.

Not bad for an old man!
