Total Time = 15h 05m 28s
Overall Rank = 1608/2755
Age Group = M 25-29
Age Group Rank = 102/156
Pre-race routine:

bagel with PB and honey, banana, bottle of gatorade.
Event warmup:

1 mile walk from transition to swim start
Swim
  • 1h 19m 6s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

crowded. Make sure you sight off the furthest bouy you can see and swim a straight line to it. Many people were zig-zagging across the lake trying to stay 10 yards off each bouy. Be prepared to fight for your space. I had people grab my ankles, shorts, etc and try to pull me back. People taking 90 deg turnes and swimming over you. Contact is to be expected with a mass start of 2500 people but its not acceptable to pull others back to gain a couple meters.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Had more space after about 800m.
Transition 1
  • 07m 33s
Comments:

crowded in changing tent. needed help getting tri top on because body was wet.
What would you do differently?:

bring a towel to wipe grass/dirt off feet before putting shoes on.
Bike
  • 6h 27m 15s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

struggled on 2nd half of bike.
What would you do differently?:

go slower on first half. I never felt like I was pushing hard but it still hit me about mile 80. Take time to fill insulated bottle with cold water. Once it heated up (comp registered temp of 111), water would get hot so fast that I stopped drinking it.
Transition 2
  • 11m 45s
Comments:

felt really bad at this point and sat in the shade for 10 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

drink/eat more on bike
Run
  • 6h 59m 49s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 16m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

had to walk most of it due to severe stomach cramps. Could not eat or drink anything most of the time. Layed on a park bench for 20 minutes at one point trying to get them to stop. Spent 2 hours in med tent after finishing due to dehydration, low blood pressure, low sodium, hypothermia.
What would you do differently?:

better nutrition on the bike would have helped me not suffer on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

med tent

What limited your ability to perform faster:

severe stomach cramps.

Event comments:

I had a goal of 13 hours but considering how bad I felt during that end of the bike and the whole run, I was completely satisfied with just finishing my first 140.6.
