cannon ball from the dock in to the murky water of Tempe Town Lake
Swim
  • 1h 09m 3s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lined up first row of swimmers and held on till the kayak moved out... then off to the race. Swam my line and felt alone the whole time. Lots of people to the left of me but the line i chose the day before was a ghost town. So no contact and swam solid for the whole swim portion. Goal time of 1:10 and came in 1:09:03
What would you do differently?:

Wish there were a couple more people in the area I was swimming so i could get some draft but other than that was very happy with the swim
Transition 1
  • 05m 16s
Comments:

Went as expected... just a long run to the tent
Bike
  • 5h 07m 33s
  • 112 miles
  • 21.85 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike effort just too many people in the 3 loops. 1st loop was fine, 2nd loop crazy busy, then 3rd loop was much better. Lots of race marshals were seen and people in the penalty tents i am sure for drafting with the amount of people out there it was almost impossible for people to be 3 lengths apart the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

drink more... is always an issue with me and the bike

Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

went smooth and no problems
Run
  • 4h 55m 35s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I have always been a poor runner so i hoped to hold on for a 5:00 marathon. Ended up with 4:55. Felt good through 13 miles then had trouble with nausea and had to switch to just coke and some water. Ice was a savior for me being a bigger guy i overheat quickly and this worked wonders in the tri suit. Last 2 miles felt like they took forever was glad to see the massive crowd and my family at the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the line, picture taken and walked around trying to feel my legs again. Grabbed fries with salt and a few waters and chatted with friends

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run always my limiting factor

Event comments:

My last Ironman i did in 13:38:59 so this was a massive improvement of over 2:20. Was very happy with my result and sore as hell today.
