Event warmup:

warmed up for my swim about 30 minutes before my wave started.
Swim
  • 24m 27s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had barely gotten really comfortable in open water and doing 880 yards without stopping only a week prior to the race. Was pretty stoked that week. That day had arrived just in time. I scored myself good in general with the swim because my focus was to swim without getting exhausted or having to stop. Having given myself 12 weeks to learn how to freestyle, speed was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to get down the form and technique.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all. Practiced sighting. Had warmed up before my wave's turn. I was so ready! Now Im at the stage where I just need to get faster.
Transition 1
  • 04m 25s
Comments:

I don't have bike shoes, only straps to my pedals.Straps were collapsing to the pedals.. Getting my shoes in was difficult. Ended up having my feet over them...
What would you do differently?:

Well NOW I can navigate my shoes into the straps very easy... Until I start wearing bike shoes, then I would just get into my straps better.
Bike
  • 24m 32s
  • 6 miles
  • 14.75 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't really train that much on the bike. I probably trained on the bike abt 5 times total for this race... Focused 99% on the swim for my first tri. So for this first race, my base for my bike experience was average. I know Im slow and I have lots to learn. I just went with it.
What would you do differently?:

some aerodynamics for longer distances. Eventually get bike shoes...
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Had my running shoes on the bike. Like I said before, I have straps on my pedals, so I wore my running shoes. Only thing I had to do was switch my helmet to my running hat.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 16m 55s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is my comfort zone. Only one person passed me on the run. Everyone else I approached, I passed. Felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Nada! Running rocks my socks.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was not that tired. Maybe I could have pushed myself faster. Maybe I could have allowed myself to have more discomfort during the race.

Event comments:

I know now what I am capable of. I feel ready for longer distances already. Getting ready for my first Olympic distance now!
