Pre-race routine:

taped up Right Ankle with KT tape for the race
Swim
  • 1h 33m 24s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was a mass start. Was not a great swim. Got kind of a bad start as was not off the line off of the start and had to jump over a dock. Started swiming on the outside, and was hard to get back to the inside track. Then, was sighting poorly and was zigzagging all over the course. Very bad navigation on my part. Water was extremely merky and low visibility.
What would you do differently?:

Be at the start at the beginning of the race (had to go to the bathroom in this case). Be sure that I was swimming on the inside, try to draft, and make sure that I was taking a good line and sighting correctly.
Transition 1
  • 07m 42s
Comments:

Average transition. Changed outside of tent because it was full. They had wetsuit strippers so that was good to help.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, just try to be faster. Was difficult to get ready while standing.
Bike
  • 6h 22m 13s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Strong winds, headwinds and cross-winds at times.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 09m 50s
Comments:

Average transition, was hot so took a while. Sitting in chair just trying to get water and cool down before the run. Trying to get socks and shoes on right and put on sunscreen. Sunscreen people helped.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 5h 31m 55s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Really tough run, especially the second loop of the run when it was really hot. The sun was getting to me and started feeling dizzy around mile 13 and had to stop and walk. Nutrition and heat were a big factor. Walked most of the second loop and was the first race that I was worried about finishing, or finishing having to walk the rest of the race. Had to stop, take a break, and get some food and go to the bathroom. RALLIED! And started to feel better by loop 3 and started to run and finished relatively strong! Was happy and proud of myself for being able to rally and really dig deep and finish. Really felt like an IRONMAN this time! :)
What would you do differently?:

Do nutrition better on the run, make sure that I'm monitoring this. Wear Sahara cap. BUT - I FINISHED AND RAN THE 3rd LOOP! Happy with my time!
Post race
Warm down:

Massage, stretching, and food tent

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sighting while swimming. Nutrition and heat during the run.

Event comments:

Great venue, great location and fun race! Had a great time with Christine Stotler as well, and with my Uncle Pete and Aunt Jane, and very happy that I was able to do this race. Was a very difficult run, but I was able to RALLY BACK and finish with a decent time! Was very happy overall with my race because I drew strength from having to overcome these issues and finish strong!
