Event warmup:

Water warm-up. Amazing setting. Set the scene well.
Swim
  • 11m 14s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim started off well. Picturesque view. Under the bridge. Turn twice and get to the ramp. I felt pretty good. Had someone drafting off of me for a good deal of the second half of it but it wasn't a problem.
What would you do differently?:

Thought it went well
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Very organized. Had helpers out of the water on the big ramp. Got passed by about 10 people in T1. That sucked. Just wasn't moving quickly enough
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1 more
Bike
  • 37m 26s
  • 20 kms
  • 32.06 km/hr
Comments:

I just wasn't strong enough on the bike. Great competitors. I got passed by about 20 guys. 15 of them in the first 5 minutes. Need to do more work on the bike. A lot more if I ever want to compete at this level.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Went down the wrong isle. Idiot move. Otherwise pretty quick. Felt good. Knew I had to pass some people on the run to make myself feel better after some 40 people passed me since I exited the water. It's a mind grind to let that happen
What would you do differently?:

Don't panic.
Run
  • 22m 24s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 29s  min/km
Comments:

Passed some people and felt better about things. Knew I wasn't going to be in top 25 and make it to Worlds. The field was sickeningly strong. My wife and kids were there cheering loud at the finish line. That was pretty solid.
What would you do differently?:

Went well.

Event comments:

Fantastic setting. Great view. I can't underestimate the quality of the competition. With Chicago hosting the Worlds in 2015 the field was stacked. The top 25 in each age group got a spot. And EVERYONE knew it. Very well run. Good expo. Milwaukee shined.
