Event warmup:

The walk to the swim start from transition was the warm up. Tried to stretch and keep moving while in line. The wait was long, but it actually went by pretty quick.
Swim
  • 1h 30m 13s
  • 3800 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

They did a great job of keeping the line moving. The large line separated into 2 lines that went to 2 different jump in points. You really felt like cattle being herded through a corral. The good news was that it kept your mind off of the upcoming swim. Before you knew it, you were jumping off the dock and swimming. I got hit a couple of times, but nothing serious. One lady did apologize for knocking my goggles off and when I told her I don't wear them, she seemed surprised. Why is that?
What would you do differently?:

Same as everyone else. Practice more swimming in open water. I've read that this swim is about the same, time wise, as any other ironman swim. That being said, my time was about 25 mins faster for this race. I'm not a fast swimmer, so the current definitely helped me.
Transition 1
  • 11m 28s
Comments:

Took my time to make sure I didn't forget anything. Got a good cold drink of Perpetuem. That was important to get me fueled up before the bike.
Bike
  • 7h 48m 36s
  • 112 miles
  • 14.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm glad I made the drive up a few weeks before the race to drive the course. Knowing the amount of hills & what to expect ahead of time was good. The first 10 miles was flat. After that it was all hills until you reached the last 10 again. Don't let anyone fool you. This course was hilly. There was no time to really settle into your aerobars and ride. Every downhill had an uphill.
What would you do differently?:

I spent many hours riding the hills around Stone Mountain. I should have ridden more. But overall, I'm satisfied with my performance.
Transition 2
  • 09m 14s
Comments:

Was glad to be off of the bike. Almost fell when getting off my bike, but didn't.
Run
  • 6h 02m 59s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 13m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good at the start of the run. I knew that I had plenty of time to complete the marathon, so I just started at a comfortable pace. No need to overdo it. Continued to take in my fuel & electrolytes and just enjoyed the run. The mid point, where you run so close to the finish line, does suck. But you kind of get an idea what you are going to get to experience, and it provides some motivation. I'm going to be honest, I knew I had plenty of time, so I walked mile 23 & 24. Running down 4th was a great feeling.
What would you do differently?:

With the amount of training I did this year, the result is what I expected.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to the hotel.

Event comments:

If you don't train on hills, this course will eat you up. There were several people who overcooked the bike and paid for it on the run. I kept a good steady pace and completed the race with no issues.
