Pre-race routine:

Got up at five. Was a little out of the ordinary since I was at my inlaw's and not at my house. Ate a bagel, banana, and cup of coffee. Loaded bike and drove down to the course with my husband.
Event warmup:

Stretched....
Swim
  • 16m 50s
  • 1000 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time doing open water swim and first time really swimming in the ocean. Initial moment of anxiety as I entered the water. Quickly overcame this feeling and was fine the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Try and swim the type of course/water I will be doing on race day, before race-day!
Transition 1
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

too slow! Was slightly disoriented out of the water. Horrible saltwater taste in the mouth.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on this transition. I am not to quick getting on and off the bike, need to work on clipping in/out.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 41s
  • 20 miles
  • 17.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Fast course!! Felt at a disadvantage with my recent illness. Overall pleased with my performance. Slow to get moving, legs were tired at the start. took in one gel about 4 miles in. Road hard in 3rd ring most of the race. Only one big hill. The scenery was breathtaking!!
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on my speed. Bike portion still me weakest area.
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Better for me. legs were sore off the bike. Still working on clipping in/out.
Run
  • 44m 45s
  • 4.5 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

out and back on the highway. Was very warm!! Not use to this weather yet. Tried to use all water stations. Ended up dumping water on myself twice. Took in one gel at mile 2.
What would you do differently?:

Felt like I had no energy. Need to increase training, especially for speed. Legs were dead.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and stretched with my husband.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

poor training week prior due to illness.

Event comments:

Well organized, as usual with Team Magic. Great location! Plan on doing it again next year and working towards a PR.
