Flew home night before from Indiana. Ate late dinner ~9:30, and in bed by 11pm.
Event warmup:

not much; little ride to check out race wheels, and that's about it.
Swim
  • 29m 30s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

The weather was NASTY HOT; 80 degrees as we drove by Dupont circle thermometer at 5:30am. Raining all the way down to the race, it was just horribly humid and muggy.

Long-ass run back to transition again this year. Used my flip-flops, that was good.
What would you do differently?:

Did great until the return, and confused the orange buoys, went to the wrong one, but good news noone was smashing me!

Comments:

Bike was fantastic, but never passed anyone in my age group, so the 2 girls ahead of me were way ahead of me! Love this bike course!

My bike split was only second to the second overall race winner (and #11 ranked USAT racer)
Transition 2

Comments:

Lost the race right here. I knew that there were two girls ranked 11th and 14th overall for USAT Mid-Atlantic. I'm ranked 62nd, so knew they'd be tough to catch. Turns out I was ahead of #14 until the last 400m and she caught me, said "let's go, almost there" and she took off. Her number was washed off her calf, and she looked much older than me, so I let her go. Bad mistake. Really sucks to lose a race by 5 seconds. The girl who passed me had the fastest run (46:41).
What would you do differently?:

NOT F#$%ING QUIT THE LAST 400 METERS!!!! ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS race to the finish line, even if you're racing a 900 year old man.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of ice down the pants, shirt, etc. Ice cold freezing shower to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My attitude.

Event comments:

Love the race, love staring at David G-"Lover" and will be back next year to reclaim my victory!

Course: They changed the run this year; you went out climbing 3 hills (3 uphill, 3 downhill), then turnaround and on the way back we cut off into the woods for a trail run. That threw me off not knowing distance to the finish line.
