Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00, waffles for breakfast. Drove to race site, about 15 minutes from the house. Got out and looked at the gulf and figured no swim. The race officials called it 20 minutes later. I think they made the right call today. It was nasty. Changed shirts for duathlon and put wetsuit away.
Event warmup:

No warm up. Race plan for duathlon was to use the first run as a warm up.

Comments:

I got on the bike and felt great. Decided to push the bike and had a great ride. I passed Worm at mile 9 and Lindsay at mile 13. I pushed really hard the whole way. The wind was nasty but more cross than anything except on the park loop which was tail for half, nasty head for half.
What would you do differently?:

Ease off at the end of the bike but I was racing for a fast bike split today and I was happy with it. I didn't take my feet out of shoes but I wanted a fast bike split so it was in the plan.

Comments:

Plan was to not to push real hard, but under 10 for the first 2 and then relax for the last 2.

I had really pushed the bike and didn't feel like I had alot but first 2 miles were about where I expected. Lindsay caught me at 1.5 and I made the turnaround at 2.25 with no sign of worm. I had backed down a little as I had planned but then I saw Worm at 2.6. I figured I had 3 to 4 minutes on him. I made the call to push a little hard but still not big until the end. At mile 3 I saw Marcy and she told me to push. I still thought he would catch me, but I wasn't gonna give it to him. Frank was warming down at mile 3.75 and I asked how far back worm was. He said I had him, but I didn't believe it. I picked it up and cruised in. I couldn't believe it. I finally got him. It was a fun day and that topped it for me. I guess Frank is my new target but he beat me by 17 minutes.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much, I went easy on the runs because of next weeks race and I hope I didn't push the bike too much.

Event comments:

I really don't like to race this close to a half ironman but you gotta race your home course so I did it.

Well run event. Swim cancellation was the right call. They improvised well and it was a fun day.

Although a small race, the level of competition was very strong. It was a state championship and a Best of the USA race.

The post race party was significantly better than last year.

Marcy and Frank both got AG awards.

Met MKinnick who smoked the course and was 1st overall beginner.
