Total Time = 1h 56m 28s
Overall Rank = 147/1288
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 26/99
Pre-race routine:

Ate a banana and a peanut butter bar. Drank some water. Woke up at 5am and got to the race a little before 6. That was plenty of time to set-up, meet people and enjoy the pre-race routine.
Event warmup:

Swam a little before the swim start. Stretched on the sand too
Swim
  • 15h 34m
  • 1094 yards
  • 1h 25m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

I kept getting hit the whole time and I never got into a rhythm. At the end of the swim I hit a big rock with my foot and I was hurting big time. Next year if I do this race I will stay to the right of the rocks. I was limping as I got out of the water...
What would you do differently?:

Let everybody in my age group start and then swim at my own pace. I started in the front and I kept getting hit by faster swimmers. One guy hit me really hard on the head. OUCH!
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Geri was talking to me and I was telling him to take pics. My transition was ok. My foot was really hurting from hitting the rock and I was hoping it would go away and it did.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 53m 54s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 20.75 mile/hr
Comments:

I started pretty good, passing a lot of people but I also got passed quite a bit on the hills. Some older guys were flying as per usual. I need to work on my gear changes and also on hills.
What would you do differently?:

Do a lot more mileage and hills. I can be quite good at this if I only train a little more...
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I did this transition pretty well. I started running pretty fast too.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 44m 3s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I tried to keep my legs moving fast. I was doing a good job but I think I can go faster. Next year this will be my race. I kept pouring water onto my face to keep cool which was a good idea. I slowed down on some portions of the run but overall it was a good run I think.
What would you do differently?:

Tried to dig deeper and push a little harder. Easy to say and harder to do...
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and got some ice put on my left quad

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Better training.

Event comments:

I love this race. The swim is easy and the bike is challenging. I love the flat run with no hills which enables you to go fast. I would do this race again and would recommend it to anyone that is new to triathlon. You have to register early as it sells out quickly!
