Pre-race routine:

5:30 AM Wake-up. Frozen Waffles, Frozen Hash browns, soy milk, coffee. Found out my Garmin 305 would not boot up. :(
Event warmup:

Swam a hundred yards to loosen up.
Swim
  • 07m
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt really good and relaxed. Water was crystal clear. I could see the bottom most of the time which helped to navigate. Recent swim drills (swim with closed fist) helped imensely. I finished near the front of my wave of 40+ men.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front. Was slowed a bit trying to pass people.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Transition went quickly. Ate a gel pack. Up on bike very quickly. Feeling good.
What would you do differently?:

Should have socks layed out properly.
Bike
  • 33m
  • 11 miles
  • 20.00 mile/hr
Comments:

My peak and taper really worked well this time. My legs were ready to go! I felt really strong on the bike and passed quite a few people. I could tell it was my fastest ride ever, the spin classes really worked.
What would you do differently?:

Definately cruise the last half mile to wind down for the run. It was really hard to get my HR down for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Very quick and easy transition. I had great bike placement.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 32m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

The run sucked. My legs were ready to go, but my HR was way high. I had to walk a few times, and basically hated every step of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myselft better on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, eat fruit and muffins.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heart rate was too high. Went too hard on the bike.

Event comments:

I met my goal time of 1:15, which was 15 min better than last year. My legs felt great, because of a good peak and taper in my training. I just went too hard on the bike, which killed me on the run.
