Overall Rank = 68/500
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/72
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30, ate a pop tart and some chocolate milk, and was out the door by 5:00. Drank a bottle of water on the drive across town. I walked from the Randall's parking lot to the race site (about a mile), then set up in transition getting done at about 6 am.
Event warmup:

I jogged about a mile around the lake and stretched a little before walking over to the swim start. I watched people swim a little bit and stretched some more. I didn't feel like getting in the water, I was pretty relaxed but ready to go.
Swim
  • 11m 9s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I went out a little quick and managed to swim pretty straight. After the first 250 yards started to get passed and felt some people on my feet. After turning the buoy and for the next 200 yards until the end, I got passed by 4 or 5 more people.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself a little better. My stroke started getting sloppy and fast at the end and I'm sure I dropped close to 2:00/100 yd. My next race is Jeff & Brede's w/ a 300m pool swim so pacing will be less of an issue.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

This was by far the weakest point of my race. I was 46 out of 72. I was dragging walking out of the water and could only manage a slow jog into transition. I put on socks/shoes while in transition and ran the bike out instead of putting shoes while on the bike and riding sockless. I thought overall it was better than at Lone Star sprint/quarter but looking back, maybe not. I could have saved 40 seconds or so and maybe improved 5 or 6 places overall if I had done things a little differently.
What would you do differently?:

Ride without socks and learn to put on shoes while on the bike.
Bike
  • 29m 40s
  • 11 miles
  • 22.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall, I felt good and like I pushed it the right amount. I got passed more than I passed others, but was able to stay with one guy the entire time and keep a good pace. I was surprised that the overall pace was over 24+ mph. No complaints here
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Think about putting some aerobars on my road bike or getting a tri-bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Better than T1. Again legs felt really good getting off the bike. I had to rummage through my bag to find my sunglasses waisting precious time.
What would you do differently?:

Set my sunglasses on my towel or wear them on the bike. At the least lay out every piece of equipment that you might need, even if I don't need them.
Run
  • 21m
  • 3 miles
  • 07m  min/mile
Comments:

Run was much better than expected. No cramping. I ran 7:14, 7:14 and 6:32 mile splits. Passed by a few in the upper age groups who were flying, and maybe one or two in my age group. I was surprised by the split on my 3rd mile. On track workouts, I rarely hit 6:32. Legs felt good the whole way.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch. Ate some watermelon, bagel, ginger snaps and drank a gatorade and some water.

Event comments:

Liked the course and the event was very well organized.

Course: Sidewalks. Very flat. It felt like I turned a corner and the finish line was right there . . . I probably just wasn't paying attention.
