  • Comments: WTC can't control the weather and made the right call to cancel the swim. I was disappointed that they didn't have us go in AG waves, rather than by bib number (when AWA's get lower bib numbers than the rest of the AG'ers), but I would do this race again.

  • Comments: It wasn't nearly as bad as it was billed. Yes the roads were rough, but we all ride on some rough roads. Putting a carpet down to avoid the sticky/burr/prickers on T2 would solve the problem of carrying your bike and IM ought to address that since most people know about it and I saw an awful lot of people carrying their bike. I did see more flats than I have at any other race in the first 5 miles, so I suspect this is still an issue. Cancelling the swim was the right call, so kudos to the RD for making the correct and safe decision. It's still Texas and I melt in the heat so I probably won't be back for this race. i did not go to the awards/rolldown. I realized prior to the race that there were 11 'All American' /'All World' athlete's in my AG and I had very little shot at top 3 or 4, but I wanted to lay it all out there. I did hear that there were no rolldowns in my AG, as expected. Big props to Bobby and MikeF for pushing me all during this training cycle. I appreciate Jim/Tony/Jae/the

  • Comments: Lets start with the pros and cons. Pros: 1. Volunteers were amazing - great job! 2. Good sportsmanship among athletes. A lot of people hurting on the run and others helping wherever possible. Nice to see. Cons: 1. No one can predict the weather so canceling the swim is just the way it is. .......But, early in the morning it was clear the fog on the lake was not going anywhere. Other racers called the airport to find out about the estimated time the fog would clear (10am). This was relayed to the race director. Plus, the prior day the fog on the lake did not clear until 10am. This race should have started at 7:30 on the bike. Everyone knew there would be record heat. Lets start early and get things going right away. They should not have waited 1 1/2 hours to start. 2. They started all of the age group athletes 2 at a time on the bike. Eventually, someone realized this would take all day and just let people go at will. The bike course was PACKED the entire time. This

  • Comments: I give this race a 9 out of 10. Other than the run course which became repetitive, the volunteers, crowd, organization and everything else was fantastic. I will definitely do this race again and highly recommend it for anyone looking at HIM races in TX!

  • Comments: Finish line is overwhelming. Chute is very short. Finishers food is immediately to left. Photo area and family/fan area overcrowded. I walked straight out unfortunately family/fans are not allowed in this area. I had to waddle outside fence to parking lot to meet them. Nowhere to sit and your in a parking lot. I would hope they would develop this back section into a family/fan finder/greeting area. Lots of open unused space.

  • Comments: I enjoyed this race. It was my first Ironman production and it was a much larger race than I expected. It was great to see so many volunteers and I am looking forward to doing another in the future.

  • Comments: On the positive, it was well organized. On the negative, the location is sort of out in the middle of nowhere and the bike course was so bad that it was dangerous. Having said all that, I did have a really good time.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: I would feel bad about my finishing time, but I finished. It was hard and I felt like quitting, especially when I realized I had no socks and my feet were blistered by mile 3... so yeah, I sucked it up and finished. Nothing to be ashamed of.

  • Comments: Great volunteers, but traffic was terrible morning of race. A few athletes came in running due to the traffic after transition was closed. I hope everyone got to race. Overall, good race especially for my first HIM.

  • Comments: Not very impressed with my first Ironman event. The expo was nice but the transitions weren't high production value like I thought they would be with little attention to detail. And the post-race "party" was lacking a lot. The veggie burgers were no a great choice. I didn't have the turkey sandwich but I heard it was just as bad. Nothing else in post race. I really expected more especially for the premium price.

  • Comments: Volunteers were great. I felt the race was well organized for the most part. Getting to the venue race morning took much longer than expected. I'm not a big fan of split transitions but it went smoothly. Bike course has some rough roads but it was not as bad as some suggested, or maybe I am just used to TX roads. Run course and indoor finish are spectator friendly.

  • Comments: Great race, with excellent organization and no hiccups whatsoever. Fantastic fan support and atmosphere both at the start, the transitions and the finish. Great shirt, visor and medal. And the run course actually encourages lots of fans to collect at Miles 1, 4, 9 and 13. If you can deal with a chattery bike ride and a challenging hilly run, this is the place to feel like a true athlete, even in a first Half Ironman. But if it was easy, everyone would do it.

  • Comments: I feel like I executed my plan very well minus the run. My nutrition seemed to work well. I had a gu 20 minutes before the swim, three IM Performs on the bike and a water. I also had a bonk breaker and a HS waffle on the ride, and then another gu on the run while alternating perform and water at every aid station on the run. Only briefly did I feel like my stomach wasn't in great shape and that didn't last long. I can't wait to do another HIM, but am going to have to wait because there's not any close to where I live until April and that's too close to IMTX and I'm not willing to risk it prior to my first IM. I would definitely do this race again...maybe next year...we'll see how things are going at that point. It was a lot of fun!

  • Comments: If I lived near Austin, I'd be entering this race again [and again and again and again until I got it right]. I'll just have to chock this one up as a certain kind of failure. For all my pre-race talk of listening to my body as I trained [I never used a heart rate monitor and rarely used a watch] I abandoned what I knew for what I thought I knew. A great race for my first HIM. The race was well-supported. No complaints.

  • Comments: I was really impressed with this race. I hear people complain a bit about the road conditions, and, while they are not good, there is nothing the race director can do about that, and they are rideable. The volunteers were FANTASTIC, and I never felt like I was on my own without support anywhere on that course.

  • Comments: I have done this twice now but I dont think that I will be back. There are just too many other races out there that I would like to see. This course is convenient given how close it is to home but the roads are a mess and for long stretches there is just too much car traffic.

  • Comments: Keith Jordan does it right. What an amazing event. With the exception of the thorns in the transition area, which they cannot control, and the cold front, it was perfect. The aid stations were well placed and fully stocked. The volunteers were amazing. Race shirts were OK. A little boring but still nice KSwiss tech shirts. Got hats at the finish line which was a nice touch. The medals were really nice to. If I was to race a HIM again, I would do this one again in a second.

  • Comments: They had a ton of aid stations on the run. However, they were all kinda close together. There was a long long section between filled with hills and no shade. One out in this area would have been smart I think.

  • Comments: The race was great and well organized. I really have no complaints. I am happy with my time for a first HIM, but know I can do much better in the future. For now, I am going to recover for a week or so & then get started up again for IMTX next May. I was also glad to meet a couple of BTers at the race which made it nice since I was there alone.
