  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: A few observations: 1. There were quite a few spectators on the course, and they were inspiring. 2. The volunteers everywhere were also amazing. 3. I've never seen so many orange cones in my life. 4. I'd been warned about a very long hill that was supposed to occur at mile 18. I ran a long uphill at mile 17, but since I was expecting the worse to still come, that hill didn't seem too bad. Turns out that I was misinformed, the bad hill really was during mile 17, and it ended up not being catastrophic!

  • Comments: You have to bring your A-game to this event. Not for the casual observer. Weather is so unpredictable. ATL broke the heat record on race day. I've run this course in tights and gloves so be wary.

  • Comments: I'm not sure I will do another marathon. I did this one just to say I did it. Right now I can't imagine doing it again. I didn't really enjoy the time I put into training just the run. I don't like running that far. It was very hard on my body. (Goodbye Mr Toe Nail, I miss you so!) The only way I could ever imagine putting my body thru that again is if I decide one day that 5:13 just isn't good enough. But that day isn't anytime soon.

  • Comments: I like the beginning and end of this race a lot. Doug suggested that a 2 loop course on the 1/2 course might be better and I think he has a point. It is cool to go out to Decatur, but not as cool as the Sweet Auburn and GA Tech to me. I may come back to see if I can break 4 hrs here. I think I could. Overall, this is a nice and challenging race. The hills beat you down and it is a game to see if you can hold pace on the hills but save enough for the climb up from Piedmont Park to the finish.

  • Comments: Great race, just wish there was a way to limit some of the barricades or at least let those that have raced through some super secret paths. It's tough to weave your way around for an extra couple miles to find people after finishing the race.

  • Comments: I am laughing at how to score myself above. I think in general I score pretty bad at overall decision making on a regular basis. Why would during a race be any different? IDK, I got to the finish line, didn't I? My mental effort was HUGE and so was my physical effort due to my pain from my stupid injury. Before the race I had written HTFU on my left arm. I referred to it many, many times and really, how can you quit when you have HTFU written on your arm in sharpie? 3 showers and it is still there. Needs to go away. I would like to be all soft for awhile now. Anyway, call me a weirdo but I love this race because it kicks my ass so hard. Who wants to run an "easy" marathon anyway?

  • Comments: Congrats to everyone! I think the Ga Marathon is finally making itself into a really great race and I actually feel comfortable recommending this race to people. I will however caution those going for a BQ on this course: Unless the BQ is a soft goal you might fight yourself dissappointed. This can be a really hard course to meet your goals on--especially if those goals are contingent on peak capabilities. Bottom line: Run this marathon, aim low and you won't be disappointed.

  • Comments: Post race at this event sucks. Everyone leaves, and that's a shame. Plan is to run it again next year, and every year that I can. I love the challenge that the course brings. Still ranks as the most difficult course that I have run.

  • Comments: This was a great race, but at the end there was nothing going on. I guess since the majority of the racers were 1/2, then they broke stuff down before us slow pokes doing the full finished.

  • Comments: Alarm went off at 4:30 or so. Yawn!!! It was cold and windy and the rain was still coming down as we headed to Marta. I fashioned a lovely little garbage bag dress that kept me warm until the start. We made our way to the bag drop and then hit the potties. The race area in general seemed more organized than last year, but there were still problems getting from Marta into the park as several of the sidewalks were closed off. Lots of bottleneck. I met up with a running group friend and we made our way to Corral 7 to run with the 5:30 pace group. We figured we'd hang with them until the split. We got into the corral pretty early and I probably should have ducked back out to hit the potties before the race started. This would become evident around, oh, Mile 1. It took us about 17 minutes to cross the finish line, but things were fairly wide open when we hit the Start line. (We taped the race coverage and you can see me crossing the start!). We had to weave a bit in the first

  • Comments: I suspect others will have a different take but for us slow folk the race support was very sparse the last few hours. I'm very grateful to those who stayed out there to continue cheering us on. It was much less understandable that most everything at Centenial Park had been dismantled and was being packed up. Pretty much the only thing left in the park was the finish line. Very anti-climactic way to finish.

  • Comments: I would consider running this course annually since it's local and it's a challenging course. I totally agree with RT "It's a benchmark accomplishment. If you can do this marathon, you can do 99% of the other ones out there." Organization was excellent with exception to the corrals. They were tough to get to since they were too close to gear check. It was tough getting back to your corral afterwards. Water stops were top notch this year. I would prefer to see the mile markers up higher and time clocks by the time chip mats along the way. But the course was well marked and plenty of police officers to ensure our safety. It was freaking cold outside so spectators were not as abundant as last year, but I imagine that is a result of the weather more than anything else. I highly recommended this marathon if you want a challenge. Next year's race is April 9th. A little later in the year and probably a little warmer, we hope.

  • Comments: The course was beautiful. There were plenty of water stations and they were stocked with volunteers. I have an issue with the finish and how it was set up. I would have prefered a straight shot and not 4 turns in a small shute. Also, my garmin has the course long at 26.35. Not a big deal though.

  • Comments: It's nice to have a big marathon in Atlanta. The organisation was much better then last year, but they still need to work on the start. It was impossible to figure out where the bag drop was or your starting coral. Some signs and a map of the park would fix this. btw, I can't beleive only 2142 people ran the marathon. Hopefully people will give them another chance since they fixed the inaugural races issues.
