  • Comments: WTC puts on a good show and race. I was a little more impressed with the venue and race set-up in Madison but I still had a wonderful time in Louisville. It was a bit of a bummer not to have Mike Reilly declare me an Ironman, as Mic Mike from Europe just wasn't as good an announcer. I thought the pre-race meal and awards banquet in Madison were better, in part to Mike Reilly being a better announcer and the venue in Madison being a little more intimate and with better food. The Galt House (the official race hotel) is a very nice hotel but the crowds there made for long waits for elevators and it got very frustrating. I upgraded my room to a suite (as we had 4 adults and 2 kids) which gave us ample space and a refrigerator but required you to use your room key just to be able to push the floor on the elevator which was annoying and a pain with overcrowded elevators. If I go back to Lou, I will likely stay at another hotel to hopefully avoid some of the crowds and allow me to get a room with

  • Comments: A great race, that you really have to prepare well for. I did A LOT of heat acclimation for and I still had issues.

  • Comments: I think this is a beautiful course. It was a warm day, but I felt like I was doing all of the right things..I was eating, taking in salt, drinking plenty of water...I took the meds I was supposed to if this happened to prevent further issues..and although it got a little better - it needed another hour or so - and I just didn't have that much time. The kicker is - I think according to the swim cutoffs and everything, I had TECHNICALLY until 6:30pm or so to finish the bike. Even w/ my stopping I think I might have been able to finish - but..if you can't see..you can't ride..and here we are again. Several months of training w/ no issues - and another..non-finish. I'm extremely disappointed. Not in my effort. I worked hard for this and honestly felt BETTER trained than AZ. So, I will call my dr..and I will work with him to figure this out!

  • Comments: This season has been a little tough with injuries to my feet. There was some doubt about finishing it but I feel like I did as well as I could. I would have liked to come in around 14-15 hours but I will need to either do a different race or get a little stronger in the saddle. It was great to hear encouragement from Felix and Leslie during the race. The finish was incredible and the only thing I wanted to do was complete the race.

  • Comments: Great race. I'm from KY so I'm used to the heat and humidity, but it can be a shocker for some folks. I'm glad it was hot and nasty that day. I was ready for it and I just wanted to conquer the course at its hardest.

  • Comments: Finished, had a better race than IMAZ but still not good. Got sick to my stomach towards the end of the bike and stayed sick almost the whole run, my nutrition fell apart but, once again, learned a lot, just trying to get rid of my draft entries.

  • Comments: The whole IRONMAN experience is something i'll never forget as long as I live. I could do 100 more but none will ever compare to the first..... I've learned so much about myself, training, equipment ect. from IM training I know this is where I need to be. I loved every minute of the experience and look forward to successful registration for IMOO and another great IM experience in 2008

  • Comments: The crowd support and volunteer support were fantastic. Considering the logistics of the last minute swim start change and some other minor details, I can't imagine how much better this race could be run. What a fantastic experience the entire weekend was!

  • Comments: Kudos too all the volunteers and to the WTC. This was the most amazing experience of my life and I am SO PROUD to have become an Ironman in my hometown. The race was absolutely the most organized of ANY race I've ever seen, even with the change in the swim course.

  • Comments: Loved it. The finish was awesome. The crowds downtown and out on the bike loop. Coming down that shoot for the final 0.2 and hearing my name was INCREDIBLE. Congrats to all IRONMEN out there. I admire you.

  • Comments: This was an incredible event and experience. Hanging out with 2,000 other people that are crazy enough to be doing this is really, really cool. I met so many great people and had so much fun. This was my first IM so I cannot compare it to others, but for an inaugural event, this seemed to run very smoothly. The people of Louisville were very welcoming.

  • Comments: My wife was my saving Grace. She wanted this as bad as I did. Her coming across the finish line with me was so fitting. She is "Ironwife". The biggest supporter that I have. This was really just the day that God shined on me. Everything just fell together. Coming in right in time what more could you ask for. I got every penny worth. here are the pics from the trip and the race. http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z139/laurastrange/Ironman%20Loui...

  • Comments: Overall they did a great job at this Inaugural event. Will I do an Ironman again, NO. God didn't put our bodies on this planet to be destroyed by an Ironman Event. My goals for the race were to have fun and finish before dark. Both were achived plus I heard today that they called my name for a roll down slot. Yes, it was a long journey but the payoff was great. I didn't have a coach, only discipline and motivation. I didn't know a fricken thing about Ironman 10 months ago so I read as much as I could via the internet to get educated. I would recommend 2 books that I used; Be Iron Fit (I used the competitive plan) and Going Long. These books were my bible. I didn't go and buy expensive stuff, I tried to keep it simple. I used my road bike with aerobars, and used a pair of spandex trunks from Target for the run and swim. It was a long 30 weeks of training and I know you can do it, cause I did it!! Go dog--
