  • Comments: Loved the race, but I feel it's not a great race for first timers. The bike course is tough, and the large amount of ppl on the bike course make for an interesting ride.

  • Comments: Great race and awesome volunteers. The people of Louisville were great and supportive. Happy with race but not happy with my run performance so I signed up for B2B this year. I plan on not making the same mistakes.

  • Comments: This race was a great race overall. The race was very well supported and the volunteers were great. Everything was on time and very well organized. I was able to quickly check in and get my packet without issue. A great part of the race are the spectators. They were cheering athletes on all along the bike and run, more so on the run but it definitely makes a difference. If you're thinking about doing this race I would highly recommend staying at the Galt House hotel, which is where I stayed. It's the host hotel and was fairly nice. The reason I recommend it is because packet pickup and Ironman village is inside the hotel. There's also restaurants inside the hotel that serve buffet breakfast (not free) that's pretty descent. Anyways, the location is close to transition and made it much easier to get everything done easily, especially with my family (pregnant wife, 2 & 10 year olds) in tow.

  • Comments: All of the volunteers were amazing. Probably the best at any race i have done. The people in the city of Louisville are very polite and friendly. If i were to come back i would stay at the Galt or Hyatt down town.

  • Comments: Observations: nobody was in the ART room. every time I went it, I went straight to a table. It was great, and 1 of the 3 was outstanding - shout out to Andrew Baer, chiro and ART guy in the Louisville area. He is outstanding and worth every dime you pay him. I won the lottery and could do this full time, I would pay to have this guy on a regular basis. The massage people were also outstanding. ..they even did some taping as an added bonus. It is interesting to me how every IM has different rules on little things. Having done 2 IMs before this one, and volunteering at 3- Arizona, LP, TX, FL, and WI, I was expecting that there was a policy to try to get your special needs bags back to you. Not at Louisville. There policy is you absolutely will get nothing back you put in your special needs bags as we don't even try, once you pass through special needs, they throw the bag in a dumpster that they then give to some company that digs through 'garbage' to resell what they can.

  • Comments: This was my second IRONMAN and I had the goal to beat last years race of 12:53 and to at best break 12 hours, which was a big stretch goal. Beating all my goals in each phase of the race including transitions means I “Raced my Plan” to perfection. I could not believe I was faster in every aspect, destroyed my bike-estimated time and still beat my best case run scenario!!!! 11:36 was not something I considered possible. GREAT DAY!

  • Comments: What a great adventure! I had origionally planned to get a foundation spot for IMWI this year and when they sold out I was crushed!! I choose IMLou because it was close in time to WI and the training schedule would be pretty close. Turns out this was meant to be. I had a great time and I'm so thankful I got to experience a different IM venue. It was a great course, great town, great volunteers, great new friends. I'm so glad I did LOUISVILLE!!!!! THANKFUL!!!

  • Comments: This was a challenging course for a first timer. The swim is not bad. The bike will work you and the run is flat but after the bike, takes focus. I loved this race as the atmosphere from the city and fans from Thursday through Monday was amazing. The race was well run. The volunteers were just amazing (can't say enough good things about these people) The finish line was awesome with the crowds. Having family there was huge. I have joined the ranks of Ironman and look forward to competing in future events. Louisville was a great 1st and I am happy I chose this race to test myself. Congrats to all the other competitors and happy healing!

  • Comments: This is the BEST race I have ever done. The courses are wonderful, the event coordinators are great and I can't say enough about the volunteers and the spectators. When combined, it really makes you feel honored to be participating - how did I get so lucky? The one downside is the host hotel. They do not have microwaves or refrigerators in the room, the wi-fi is non-existant (although I paid for premium, I was not able to get it and had to leave the hotel to get service) and the wait for the elevators was crazy long (glad I was on the fifth floor, I could take the stairs to the 3rd floor and ride the escalator to the 1st floor). Disappointed at not having a finisher photo, but will definitely pay attention next time! Love this race, highly recommend it. Louisville is a great city with lots of friendly faces!

  • Comments: I can't say too much but good things about Ironman Louisville. The volunteers are amazing and the race director did a fantastic job marshaling her resources and put on a fantastic race. I'm not sure if there is a good solution to the swim line and to discourage the really slow swimmers from lining up super early. The out-and-back part of the course is incredibly dangerous with so many inexperienced cyclists out there and I would hope that those 10 miles could be added elsewhere to make the bike race a bit safer. The run course could be modified to make it more interesting, but I'm not sure if Louisville can really offer much more than it does.

  • Comments: Loved it. Obviously I am pumped up by the performance but honestly don't understand why IMLOU gets a bad reputation. Yes, the bike course is challenging and the temps are HOT. But it's IRONMAN, not supposed to be easy.

  • Comments: Great race. Extremely well organized. This course is not to be underestimated. Coming from Chicago, which is flat as a pancake, this course is HILLY. Also, Kentucky in August is HOT. This was a huge goal of mine, and I'm very proud of my accomplishment.

  • Comments: For anyone thinking about this race I would say it is worth it. I had plently of people warn me that it was too tough for a first time race but as long as you put in the training, know your abilities and limitations, and race within yourself you will be fine. Louisville does an amazing job with support and volunteers and the city is a pretty cool place to visit.
