  • Comments: I've said it before, this is a no-frills race. And yes it's flat and fast, but there's always going to be some negative factor - and for this course it's wind. Aside from the topography and weather, the ROTC does most of the volunteer and aid station work - AND THEY ARE AWESOME!! Lots of my friends were there, there are markers for every mile and lots of digital displays, and the post-Race spread was pretty darn decent this year. Normally the 32 degree temps don't bother me, but I think since it's been such an abrnormally cold and lonnnnnnnng Winter, the cold became a factor this year. Hopefully next year it will be warmer :)

  • Comments: Overall, I am happy with today's race. I keep remembering that I have come such a long way. OK, I didn't PR, but I did get a COURSE PR (2:07.XX) in 2007. I keep coming back to the thought that every race I finish and every race I start is a victory. I'm going to take it easy this week. I think I know my body and I think I need to lay off a bit. It's Spring break, so I am going to try to sleep a little late, do a bunch of yard work and stuff around the house. I'm going to swim tomorrow, do a couple of easy runs this week and maybe an 8 miler or so on Saturday. -------------- Big, big, big congrats to Bobby. He finished 4th in the division. He had a great race and is definitely in the best shape I have seen him in. I keep nominating him for BTer of the Month. Maybe this month he'll finally win. Kudos also to Billy who had a great race and I think he said it was a PR. Great job!!

  • Comments: As I've stated before this is a low-key, no frills race. There is no gatorade at the water stops, only water. There are maybe 20 spectators througout the entire course. Having said that... I love this race. For 20 bucks they shut down all of Nicolls road, just for me. It's flat and fast and it's a great Half to start the season and I always have a great time with my friends.

  • Comments: I'm just going to insert the same comments I wrote last year, as I still feel exactly the same way about this race --> The Suffolk County Half Marathon is a No-Frills race: virtually no spectators, no bands playing, it's as basic as basic gets --- and that's what I loved about it. The course is uber flat - maybe a half dozen gentle inclines and declines; there is some wind. So if you want to set a PR, if you want to get in a really fast-paced training run, this is your race. I'm going to label the Suffolk County Half Marathon a "Purists Half Marathon". My kind of race.

  • Comments: The Suffolk County Half Marathon is a No-Frills race: no spectators (I saw maybe six on the actual course), only water at the water stations (no gatorade or gels), no bands playing, it's as basic as basic gets --- and that's what I loved about it. The course is uber flat - maybe a half dozen gentle inclines and declines; there is some wind (I've heard horror stories about the wind on this course, but to be perfectly honest it was not windy this morning, and the wind was a factor only a few times). So if you want to set a PR, if you want to get in a really fast-paced training run, this is your race. The race was also executed extremely well: the gun went off, no kidding, at exactly 9AM to the second; there were lots and lots of digital mile display splits (almost every mile); a lot of the Cops did cheer us on; lots of water stops -- I felt like the race was designed for a PR. I'm going to label the Suffolk County Half Marathon a "Purists Half Marathon". My kind of race.

  • Comments: Best to treat it like a training run with 366 friends. Flat, boring, no spectators.. but very cheap and fun to run in an organzed event as opposed to around my house.

  • Comments: Not the same atmosphere as the LI half. There was pretty much no one spectating.
