  • Comments: Very well-organized; much easier logistics than last time I did it as I used a package through the event organizers. Lots of events for kids and families. Pricey, though. High entry fees and really only convenient to stay on the island. Plus a bit of nickel-and-diming. They make you pay 57 Sing. dollars extra for the award dinner, and then drinks (even water) are not included. It seemed a bit cheap given the cost of the event and the many families participating, At least they could include water/soft drinks, particularly considering what the athletes have just gone through. Post-race food also sad--a few overripe bananas and slices of dry cake. At any rate was too hot to eat at that point. I wouldn't recommend the Oly for beginners as it's a brutal bike and run course, esp. as it starts in afternoon heat at 1:45/2 PM and features 2 laps of the infamous run course. But easily one of the most beautiful swims on the SEA scene. I'll even forgive the jellyfish.

  • Comments: Family also had a great time. THe kids had free face painting, free elephant rides, bubble pool, mask making and lego so they were well occupied. Organised a massage for my wife, great dinner at the Chinese restaurant which is at the end of the jetty in the middle of the bay and then in bed by 8:30pm with the noise of the after party unable to keep me awake, lol.

  • Comments: This is a great race with a great atmosphere. Very freindly staff, spectators and competitors. I feel like this was something of a draw between me and the race. Will be back next year leaner and meaner - there were 60 finishers between me and the guys coming in at 2:30. With a bit more milage under the belt I reckon I can take them.

  • Comments: When the torrential rain came, I decided to toss my goal times out the window, especially for the bike. Just goes to show that you never know what will happen. The course was nice, but there were very few spectators on the bike course. The organizers were terrific, and the participants seemed relaxed and happy to have a good time. Definitely a Singapore-based race, with very few folks (only my group of friends?) traveling any real distance to do the race. Even the organizers were surprised we traveled all the way from Beijing. The kids race the next day was well organized and a lot of fun for both children and parents, which made it a real family weekend. Being stuck on an island without a bike shop and then being gouged by the Singapore-based bike mechanic that came for the race was a bit disappointing. Overall, a nice excuse to visit Singapore and have a fun weekend in the sun with other families with children of all ages. I was very gratified to see all of my consistent training

  • Comments: As Hotrunner mentioned the organisation prior to the race was diabolical and I was really nervous because I had three friends travelling to compete from Taiwan and Australia. However the organisation on the day couldn't be faulted, the course was interesting, scenic and challenging. They had organised activities for the children such as face-painting, a bubble pool and an elephant visit. For a 40 year old father of three this was probably the ideal blend of racing and family fun in a beautiful spot.

  • Comments: The actual race was very well-organized; beautiful, challenging course, though the bike leg was a bit much for me. Loved the long swim in clear blue water. But logistics of transport, etc, were very difficult, very poor response from associated travel agencies and race organizers. Logistics of getting to/from Bintan from Saigon are challenging anyway (not a long weekend, not possible to get Friday off, end of school year), so I would probably give it a miss next time.

  • Comments: I did all possible mistakes, didn't screw aerobars properly, took off shoe too early, lost garmin on transition run, lost shoe on transition run, didn't tied shoe properly.... lol. I was thinking at some point, what else...:) But race and organization was great, might go there again. Will not stay there more than just for race - so expensive!
