  • Comments: I really enjoy the Marine Corps Historic half, it's a challenge if you want it to be but absolutely a first timers joy. It's a great atmosphere, well supported and well staffed.

  • Comments: Being former military, I found it really cool to be around so many other military people again. I have never run in an event of this size so it felt great to be out there. There were so many cool things to look at along the route, it made things go by very quickly. A half mary is a big milestone for me. I hate running so I decided to do this to face my biggest tri concern, head-on. I really feel as though this helped me. Last September, I ran a 10k in 1:11. This year, after the training, I expect to be under 1hr. Today was a good day for me. OOH RAH!

  • Comments: I loved the location. The race was super organized. I never had to wait in line for packet pickup, shirt pickup, food at the end of the race or a massage. There were tons of volunteers and well supported water/fuel stations. There were tons of people cheering the whole way. The music groups playing along the course were AWESOME! Before the race started, there was lots of fanfare including a prayer, the National Anthem, and a "Town Cryer" to get the race off to a themed start - very cool! The medal was great, too. It was kind of a bummer that you had to pay extra to get a race shirt. Otherwise, I probably would have bought some other race gear, but I had already spent my race $ for this one. I also wish they offered a little more in the way of post-race food like peanut butter for the bagels or something hot like soup. Overall, though, this was an excellent race experience and I can't wait to do it again.

  • Comments: Damn thats a big hill around mile 10! Right by Mary Washington Hospital. Just as well - must have kept the ER busy.

  • Comments: Rick Nealis, the race director for the Marine Corps Marathon and associate events, puts on a race to rival the Disney races. I'm not kidding. I would have liked to have seen more selection of food afterward...maybe something warm. The beer truck was too far away. And I really wanted a massage, but the line was too long. I guess I need to run faster.

  • Comments: The Marines do know how to put on a race. This is a great event and course. I would highly recommend it to everyone. The race was organized, lots of cool swag and decent post race snacks. There were plenty of bathrooms including indoor facilities. Since the race started at the Fred. Convention Center, they used it on race morning. There were bathrooms inside and plenty of space of stay dry while waiting. Just don't trust the elevation chart online. It looks downhill for the first 9 miles or so - not true. It's a challenging course but nothing too crazy.

  • Comments: Another well-organized, fun event put on by the Marine Corps Marathon Association. Fun to be part of an inaugural race, especially since it was also MY first half marathon. Awesome to see all the Marines out along the course (including the Navy Corpsman who spotted Travis in his USMC jersey and yelled "Go NAVY!"). Definitely a race we'd do again if we can travel back East again to do it.

  • Comments: The Marines really put on a great race. It was an inaugural event and everything went smoothy. They had plently of drink stations, a lot of volunteers, the course was well marked, and they had some entertainment every few miles out on the course. I will definitely plan on doing this race again -- Loved it!! :)
