  • Comments: This is a fast course and a great race to PR. The race is well organized and with plenty of volunteers. I would love to race B2B again.

  • Comments: Logistically, this is a tough race - especially for the spectators. With that in mind, I think the organization was good. I would recommend the race, and I highly recommend Wrightsville Beach and the Holiday Inn Sunspree. My only real complaints with this race were the Heed -- I couldn't get it down, and the run course needed a few more light towers in the park section. There were some places where it was too dark to see where we were running. The volunteers were awesome. And the spectators gave me some encouragement when I needed it.

  • Comments: The best part of training for an IM is that you learn some things about your capabilities and how far you can push them and how to push them. The worst thing is that you do not get to do nearly as much social riding. I have always been the guy that hung back whenever there was a beginner rider in the group because I have that "caretaker" kind of personality and want to promote the sport. It was too difficult for me to leave those people to fend for themselves during group rides so I just started riding by myself most of the time. While training gave me a lot of self satisfaction, it also took a lot of fun out working out by riding alone and like the time I needed a cane to walk on a Sunday because of a back injury from heavy lifting and swimming Tuesday and riding Wednesday because I was already behind on training due to back issues the previous couple of months. ... and the time I ran sixteen miles with a fever at 11:00 at night trying to get my running back on track and went home

  • Comments: The race was a really well run event. At first I was a little worried about the duel transitions and the newness of the race but they had it all squared away. If you are considering this as your first full distance event you will not find a better place to start. I think they said they had a 1:1 ratio of volunteers to participants and every aid station was on the ball. At the bike special needs I didn’t even ask for my bag and they ran it over to me before I got off the bike to stretch a little. The swim is easy, the bike is fast, and the run is very well supported. During the run the spectators are on the riverfront so you see them for 2 miles four times throughout the run. Yeah 1 mile of the run was not lit well but I am sure they will make it better next year and if you are worried about it finish before the sun goes down or bring your own light. One of the best things: After the race I went to get my bike and ALL of my gear was sitting there waiting for me. The volunteers had found

  • Comments: This was my second IM this year. I cut my swims down to 2 per week and blew off several workouts. Despite that my bike was about 20 minutes faster than KY. My run was just three minutes slower, though I felt much slower. I'm glad I did this one but will have to think long and hard about 2 IM races in one year again. I have to say thank you again to Jungle Jenn, who drove me down to NC and back again. Also to Amy and her husband Andy who drove me all over the race venue and Wilmington. My Cousin Travis gave up an entire weekend to come support me, thank you Travis. You were really good to me out there. I can't believe how fortunate I am to have family and friends like these people. I think Travis got the bug. He's talking about a HIM next year. Travis, you do it and I'll be there to jockstrap you. Just name the race. Lastly I want to thank my wife, Alice. I floated the idea of an Ironman 2 years ago. She said she'd be supportive. And boy, has she been. After KY I said that there were

  • Comments: Well this was my first full so I don't have any others to compare it to BUT Set-Up did a great job and the community seems very supportive of all the disruption. I really can't complain at all about anything since this race brought to an end my first full season of tri (last year I did a sprint in Oct). I made up my mind one year ago that I was going to do this race and well it lived up to everything I wanted. It was a great weekend---the weather was great, the race was organized, nice course. And most importantly I got to meet a FANTASTIC group of BTers!!! A bunch of us went for a swim on Fri (and bike) and then dinner that night. It was great to know some faces out there on the course and have friendly, supportive people to talk to after---thanks to ALL of you for being so friendly and encouraging!!!

  • Comments: If I could change a couple things, It'd be to be more spectator friendly, and have better bling. What great weather, great people and a great race, If I had to recommend, I'd say definitely come to this place! Sadly I got no official times for swim or for bike, I should've cheated on the Felt and the hike, I could've done better that way, But all in all I was very happy with my day.

  • Comments: Great race for a PR! The swim is lightning fast, the bike is pancake flat and the run has a lot of turns to keep it from getting too boring. All in all it was a great race!

  • Comments: This was the first year for this race but Setup events did a good job. There were a few things that need to be addressed like the mile markers on the bike and some delays at the finish but I'm sure they will be addressed. I would like to see them change the swim to something a harder or provide times equivalent to other IMs. There shouldn't be swim times in the 40s. This is definitely a race course to get a PR. Everything about this race is fast. A fast swim, smooth bike and relatively flat run course. I've done Lake Placid and now this independent race and while on the course you can't tell much between the races. Both offered a lot of volunteers, well stocked water stops and all the support you could want. I think the big differences come off the course. This race was more like going to a brew pub with people interested in drinking good beer and conversation while the WTC race is more like going to a night club. It's a loud hyper atmosphere with all the bells and whistles.

  • Comments: Wow. My first iron distance and I can't believe it's over. I was so stressed out last week this time it was unbelievable. Turns out the race was not bad at all but does require some thinking on your part. SetUp did a great job and the aid station were all excellent. I would have some lights coming into the finish area but all in all it was a well organized and produced even. I highly recommend it for first time iron distance.

  • Comments: Inaugural event was well planned. Handful of items need improving. Mostly spectator and T1 related. Volunteers were awesome and there were a ton of them. Great first iron distance race for me. Would do this race again.

  • Comments: I would have to say that Setup did a great job with this race, espically for it being it's first year. Everyone I talked to loved the swim and most said the will be back next year. Me on the other hand, I got the IM bug out of my system. It was all base training for me and after 3 weeks off its time to get back to build and speed work for Xterra's for 09'. I may RACE the half next year, but not the full.

  • Comments: Great race again by Setup Events. The only minor complaints were the mileage markers on the bike course and the Ferry line at the finish. Other than that, I HIGHLY reccomend this race to someone as a first time Iron Distance Race.

  • Comments: I said going into this race that I was going to be OK with whatever happened, and that included taking a dnf, and I actually am OK with the way things played out. This is not what I was expecting, but c'est la vie, que sera, sera. Here's a nsaty picture of my foot the morning after. Today is two days post race, and I can walk on it with not too much pain.
