  • Comments: That wraps up the three race whirl wind tour. 1-1-2...I'll take it. After the race I waited around for results and the penalty sheet and sure enough, there I was with a 5.10f position penalty. In the grand scheme of things it didn't make a bit of difference as I finished 2nd and even with the 2 minute penalty, I was still in second. I knew before the race that it was going to take a 2:08 to win my AG and I came up just short (2:10 + 2)because of my labored run. I have to say that I couldn't be happier with the end to this Tri season. Best of all, my leg (the injury) feels great. There is not even a remnant of pain or discomfort coming from that area during these last few weeks. Another big benefit is that I'm not at all burnt out. I'm excited to start really running again and build up some fitness and speed for next year. So let's talk about what's up next. Had a talk with Stover and I'm going to go unstructured for about a month. Running everyday and dropping swim and bike to 2-3x

  • Comments: Good race, a little pricey but well run and overall a good value for anyone in the LA area. A tough field too - Hunter Kemper did not even medal!

  • Comments: Checked my finish time after the race and all was expected. Got home and took a nap, then after I awoke, checked the online results and lo-and-behold, I see "penalty: 2:00" beside my time. WTF??? On the bike course, after the turn around at Staples to do the 2.5 mile out and back, I had a marshal beside me for about 2 miles, and ironically, those were some of my fastest miles of the race - speed was 27mph+ for much of the time. I was picking people off one after another and had no one in pursuit. On a couple of occasions, the idiot driving the motorcycle was interfering by blocking me and putting me perilously close to the other riders that were not following convention and were hanging out in the left of the course for no good reason (and technically, should be tagged for a blocking violation). Anyways, I saw the assistant hurriedly scribbling and figured "cool, they're gonna hit these folks with blocking penalties for staying left..."...I passed at least twice between the marshal

  • Comments: Considering it was my first race I think I did ok. Would have liked to be a little faster at everything especially the ride. Will work on getting faster on my bike and sign up for another in the spring. Brick workouts would be a huge help too. I had no idea how taxing it to switch from swim to bike and bike to run. Respect to you all.

  • Comments: All in all, I had a very good race. It was really something to be up there battling during the bike. As a fairly good swimmer, all I've known to this point was getting passed on the bike. This time, I was able to hold my own. For the first time in my 6 month tri career, I was ranked higher in the bike than the swim. I'm really going to work hard on my run during the off season. I know run times are related to bike fitness and all that, but I want to get my run inline with my swim and bike times. I'm doing Hermosa Beach "Day at The Beach" Tri next weekend just for fun. Just going to use it as a good workout and have a good time. Then take a break for a little bit!

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race. Riding the bike on LA city streets with no traffic was totally cool. There were lots of volunteers and police around, and they were all terrific. Fellow racers were really nice and considerate. I do apologize for those folks I smacked on the swim -- there were a couple of you. Also, sorry for standing too long in the aisle in T2 trying to fix my race belt -- didn't mean to hold you up. My only complaint is that the swag was minimal. All I got in my swag bag at the expo was a small bag of potato chips and a bunch of advertisements! Come on -- how about a free gel or some other samples! I like swag. My kids each got a little Toyota backpack and a Kaiser plastic cup at the health expo. So they, at least, were happy with the swag. T-shirt is awesome -- I love the design. I was really stressing about the logistics of a point-to-point triathlon (with separate T1 and T2s). I feared my bags getting lost, me missing the shuttle back to the start, lost

  • Comments: Wow. Truly epic swim. Being a good swimmer you LIVE for days like this. I feel bad for all the not so good swimmers who didn't enjoy it...but hey, sometimes you have to make the good swimmers happy too! My results look pretty ugly, but the online results unfortunately do not show anyone who DNF'ed on the swim. The RD-types were estimating that they pulled 500 chips from people at the swim starts. They handed out 2150 at packet pickup and the website had 1368 official finishers between the sprint and Oly. So that just goes to show you how many people didn't manage the swim. I'm so very glad the swim wasn't cancelled though I totally would NOT have blamed them...and anyone that knows me knows that is saying something! So, kudos to the RD for sticking it out. Kudos to the LA Lifeguards for just plain ROCKING. My gripes and warnings to future participants: 1. This is a point to point race and they do NOT give you free transportation back to the start after the finish or to

  • Comments: This was my return the scene of the crime. The 2008 LA Triathlon sprint course was my first Triathlon. I have spent untold thousands of dollars and training hours in the last year. I forward to more training hours and hope the dollars slow down.

  • Comments: The people were really encouraging. I found out that I also got a 2 min penalty and I have no idea why. Trying to figure out what happened. Goal was 2:30, going to try again next year again, and shoot for under 2:30

  • Comments: The race wasn't prefect, but went off about as well as you could expect given that it traverses a major city. The surf didn't help with the wave starts, but completely understandable... they delayed starts to keep the number of bodies in the water at a safe level.

  • Comments: I am glad I am doing the full Lifetime Fitness Series. I would probably not return to this one or recommend it to other east coasters. It was semi hectic with the loose organization. The volunteers that were there were great but they were definitely not enough to handle the masses...they were running out of water on my second run loop....and there were 15 waves after mine...Also, downtown LA is making a turn for the better but still is pretty seedy with some colorful folks lurking around the streets.

  • Comments: I had a great time on this race (my first olympic, second race), but there a few things that I can't get over, and probably will not do this race again. For one, they screwed up my age group, which caused me some stress that I probably could have gotten over. However, my results were then missing because of this (worked out within 48 hours). This wasn't a huge deal and I'm sure happens to others at every race. I do not like the point to point format, and would try to avoid it in future races. The entry fees + parking were very high. The worst part of the race, for me, was the condition of the roads. I bike all the time in West LA, Santa Monica, Malibu, Brentwood, etc. and do not have to deal with bad roads. These roads were bad from start to finish. Next year, I will be doing Malibu Olympic (which, this year, is just one week later).

  • Comments: This was only my 3rd tri, but it was definitely the best so far. A bit pricey, but they did have to have cops on almost every corner. It was worth the cost though just to be able to ride down Wilshire in the Miracle Mile with absolutely no cars! I'm sure I'll do it again next year just because of the proximity to my apartment.

  • Comments: I was a bit disappointed with this race. Even without a taper, I expected to go 2:30. I lost time in the swim, T2 and a little in the run. I was happy with my bike leg.

  • Comments: I could have placed 3rd. I could have actually placed in a triathlon. Now it is just in the super clydes division, but frick...I was probably the biggest super clyde there. One guy that I thought was big only weighed 255...where I have 20lbs on him. This is my final race at LA. The race is too expensive and the seperate transitions is dumb.

  • Comments: I enjoyed doing this race. Probably wont do it again next year. Not a huge fan of the point to point aspect of the race. Very well organized. I had three plans for the race (A, B and C) Plan A was my "I'm having a great day and everything is going right" My goal was to finish in 3:00 to 3:05 Plan B was my "It's an okay day, wheels haven't fallen off but I'm hurting a little" goal to finish in 3:10 Plan B was "I pinch flatted on a pot hole and lost my nutrition" the goal was to finish in 3:20. I really didn't expect to break 3 hours. Only by 2 seconds, had no idea I came that close. I'm very excited that I broke 3 hours on my first attempt out for an olympic. It gave me some confidence as I start to build up base for HIM training.

  • Comments: This is a great race. Its large, but well managed. It had its share of miscues, but not really worth mentioning (even the ones I mentioned, not worth mentioning, really) What a fantastic bike and run course. If there were races in other cities that offered the same slice of experience for them as this does for LA, i would definitely do them. I recommend this race, if for no other reason than to see Hollywood Blvd, in broad daylight, hell at any time, completely devoid of cars? wow. I made a decision after Vineman to race a lot for the rest of the season but not to take it all too seriously. I have no A, B, C races, just races. This is working well for me. I'm momentarily bugged by my time, but just for a moment. I'm not trying to set the world on fire right now. I'm not trying to win my age group. Happy to compete, happy to finish. Happy to do a bit better than the last race of this distance. This race, If I do no other, i will do every year from now on. What a
