  • Comments: This was my third year at this event and I really enjoy it. It's close to home (w/n an hour), has a lake swim in warm water, and the bike and run courses are also enjoyable. To top things off, I felt that all the volunteers did a great job. I would recommend this event to all beginners and intermediate racers. Next year though I would like to encourage them to go with 5 mins between the waves in the swim and not 3 mins as there's just too many people in the way.

  • Comments: This race went very smooth this year. Issues that were problems last year (multiple long lines on race morning) were addressed beautifully! (there were no lines at all on race morning).

  • Comments: Very fun race. Definitely would have been in contention for a podium had I come in fresh. I just need to be smarter about my prior day's workout. It's ok to train through races and not formally taper into them, but don't go out and kill yourself the day before...just dumb. Live and learn.

  • Comments: I actually love this race. There is a coned off lane for the bikes and traffic control every step of the way. The fixed their 'long line' issue this year by providing bike stickers with the race packets we picked up the day before. So, there was no need for the long line that delayed the race start last year. This race started exactly on time.

  • Comments: Almost six minutes faster than last year. Gotta be pleased with that. And I finished in the top half of my age group. Such a nice change from my recent placings in longer races. I felt sluggish and tired the whole race. I was hoping that that was because my effort was greater than last year. Given the times I ended up with I'd like to think that was the case. I sprained my knee a few weeks ago and it didn't bother me at all. That was because I have been resting it. It's hard to balance training for a race and resting a knee. I hope I hit it just right. The organization of this year's race was SO MUCH better than last year's. Our race packets were complete so no lining up race morning. The bike course had marshalls all over the place so we didn't have to worry about traffic or pedestrians. On top of Hansen Dam the gate was open and it was coned off so we didn't have to dodge pedestrians. Three water stations on the run? You gotta be kidding me (in a good way)? I wished I would have

  • Comments: The race organizers had a lot of amateur hour moments. My swim cap wasn't in my registration bag so I had to go back and get one. When I did I saw that by that point they only had shirts for the bags and they had run out of caps in the right color. The bag was also missing helmet and bike numbers, which meant we had to spend race morning in a line to get them. Then there was the top of the dam with pedestrians (no cones) and closed gates. Lame and potentially dangerous. I'd rather not focus on that, though, because the course itself is wonderful. The lake was the perfect temperature. I love the bike course. The run course was a blast. I had a friend who travelled from the San Joaquin Valley to try the race and she loved it so much she's coming back next year.

  • Comments: I signed up for this a couple days ago. Didn't know how I'd feel 2 weeks out from vineman. but it was my 3rd year doing it and boy has it grown! first year I did the race there were no medals. last year it was a generic tri medal w a sticker on the back. this year, the t shirts were technical shirts (altho far too large for me) and the medals were custom! i wanted to better my time from last year so i planned to just push myself the entire time like i never have before. i was hoping to be one of the fastest swimmers in my AG and i was! last year my overall time was 1:23 and i wanted to get 1:20, and i did better at 1:19:03. woohoo! the race is filled w beginners which is really nice. only drawback is that they all set up beach towels in transition taking up way way too much space. but i got into a spot by asking someone to move their stuff over. i was nice, they obliged, it was all good.

  • Comments: I only have one other triathlon against which to rate this race. I think this race would make a perfect first triathlon but also great for anyone who wants a good time. I had a blast. I was disappointed that at the end there were only a few apple slices and a few bottles of lukewarm water left. That's what I get being older and a woman? Is that the thanks I get? At the end of the Possabilities tri there were lots of vendors giving away tons of fruit, energy bars and trail mix. Here, just a few apple slices, about what I get from a local 5K with a $25 entry fee. Still, I will definitely do it again next year. The weather was perfect! Even though the morning was quite cool and I thought I would be cold on the bike, it wasn't the case. It warmed up just enough.

  • Comments: I enjoyed the race. I will do this again. The organization could have been a LOT better. Tough job, so I will not be too hard on them. To many needless lines to wait in. Here are the lines I had to wait in on race morning... Packet Pickup, Timing Chip, T-Shirt, Swim Cap, Transition entry... these were all seperate lines and the transition entry was really, really long. Some people had to wait in this one line for 25 minutes! I understand that race directors always want you to pick-up your packet the day before... but am I really supposed to drive an hour to the race site, pick-up my packet, turn around and drive an hour back home... then do it all over again on race day? Not for a small race like this. Overall, the race was fun and I actually wish there were more small, less costly events like this one.

  • Comments: i didn't stick around for anything after the race. i heard that they didn't have medals for quite some time. needless to say i didn't get one. this is a very local race. it's cheap and it is fun. it is well organized for the most part in terms of crew out in the water, markings but not so much with the staff on hand. i picked up my numbers and chip and took my own t shirt, no one was paying attention. i have no idea what the post race stuff was like. i didn't walk thru sponsor village or anything, just wanted to get back home and start my day. it was nice to have raced and been on the road by 9am. :)

  • Comments: Overall a very good race and I'm very happy with my performance. It was nice to have a race that was so close, it was pretty organized, although they did start a little late. The volunteers at the water stops were awesome with the cheering. It's been so long since I raced in my tri club gear I forgot to cheer on fellow clubbers until a couple of people gave me encouragement. It's always nice to have both spectators and people on the course giving you an extra shout out.

  • Comments: This was a fun race for sure. I loved the fact that there weren't a ton of hills....well...there were hills but the hills were right at my ability level. It was a fairly small race, which I liked too, because it wasn't so crowded. Lots of drink stations on the run, which was nice but kind of unnecessary. I would definitely recommend this race and will probably do it again next year. :)

  • Comments: Logistics were excellent, i.e., plenty of cones and volunteers. Race started about 30 mins late do to timing problems. Nevertheless, overall, this was a wonderful course and I would recommend it to anyone interested starting out in triathlons and/or those who just want a great workout. The volunteers, cops, explorers, and park rangers did an outstanding job.

  • Comments: Low-key event. Just wished it had started somewhere near on time. Waiting 30 minutes to go into the water can be taxing on the nerves. Overall, I like the event and will try to keep it in my rotation.

  • Comments: This was a fun little local race. I really had a good time. Peedra and I stayed around to watch a friend from work finish. His wife also entered the race, her first, and toughed it out and finished as well. After Wildflower and Vineman, a smaller race like this can seem a little disorganized, but all the big bones stuff was good. Sure it started a little late, but there were plenty of volunteers, the course was well laid out and clearly marked, the traffic control was very good for the bike, the registration was efficient, and the transition area was well thought out. If all of the big races could just do these things well, isn't the rest really just window dressing? This was a fun little local race and you can't beat the registration price at $40. Schedule permitting, i'll be back next year.

  • Comments: this year i hear was a little more organized than last year. started 30 min late due to waiting for the DOT to clear the bike course and ensure it was safe to race. Overall, this was a fun race - it was a good sprint distance, glad i could do it and finish in a reasonably respectable amount of time with little to no training. :) but this made me realize i better step up my training for Malibu in 4 weeks. ACK!!
