  • Comments: Stuck to the plan of racing this at full IM pace and not at full HIM Race Pace. I felt solid the whole way and could have gone harder for sure. Best of all, recovery was very quick and did not need to take any time off. I felt pretty good at the Carlsbad 5000 the next day. (But that is another show)

  • Comments: Had an amazing race even with negatives. I felt super strong and wonderful after the race vs. the first HIM I did. I trained harder and it really showed in my run leg at the end. Had some hang ups which kept out of the PR game but I'm really happy with my performance and truly had a lot of fun out there. It sucks training for so long. I remember thinking at week 14 of 18 why the hell am I doing this. The excessive training actually made it lose its fun value but seeing how strong I was goes to show that it definitely paid off.

  • Comments: Mentally I was all there. Yay. Physically not so much, but did the best I could with the training I did. Ended up with some narsty sunburn on my arms, shoulders - painful! That's taught me a lesson about racing long w/o reapplying sunscreen. Absolutely fantastic race & support - I would definitely like to do it again next year! In fact I think it's a must - I need to have a good race here! And thanks again to all those athletes who go out of their way to support each other - this sport rocks!

  • Comments: My first 70.3! It was great! I had a goal time of between 7:00 and 7:30. So, I smashed those times! I'm already thinking about coming back next year. I have a goal in mind, but won't post it yet. I have lots of work to do in the next year to be better prepared for the course next time. Maybe I'll get another one in before the year is up.

  • Comments: It was a good race but WTC is not providing the basic information a race should offer for what we pay. No official hill profile with overall elevation gain. No info on the total # of participants to include how many were in my age group and they did not provide me info on my bike finish place overall or age group place on the bike. The other thing is my time for the race was 5:36:10 and I even stopped my watch 1 or 2 min after crossing the finish line. They have me finishing in 5:52:33. That's a discrepancy of 16 Minutes???? I always expect a little discrepancy but not 16 minutes. The best thing I confirmed is to space my Gu’s out at least 1:15.

  • Comments: Amazing race, amazing experience that I will remember the rest of my life(first 70.3 distance). Just the chance to enjoy the incredibly inspiring people on and off the course was worth many times more than the price of admission. This is an opportunity that should in my opinion should never be missed. Even though my performance would be considered very slow compared to many others that ran this race I still felt like I was treated like royalty on a cruise ship. The volunteers were awesome and attended to every conceivable need. This experience for me was hard to beat. If you ever get the chance. DO IT!

  • Comments: I knew coming into this race that I had no business expecting much more than a finish. Work has been crazy for me all winter (16-20 hr days) and I've been a total wuss on my bike and swim training. This was my first swim of the year, and I've put relatively little bike volume in since IMAZ...as far as run training, I kept my run training pretty consistent over the last 6 weeks or so. Given the obvious lack of preparation and targeted build for this race, I don't think I have anything to complain about here - like everything, I got out of it, what I put into it. This was really more of a long training day for me and an initial baseline to let me know what I need to focus on for IMCDA in June (everything!! :) ). I'm actually somewhat amazed that I only missed my PB (5:10:01) by 23 mins with so little training - at least I know I have enough base to carry me as a MOP AGer. Lots of fast people at this race and an incredibly strong field on a truly honest course, which is what I love

  • Comments: This was a great race. It was nice blend of a WTC race and a local tri. Everything was organized, but the volunteers only had info about their specific area and couldn't guide you anywhere else. The transition was lined with carpet and the roads were marked and clean. It's a great mix of terrain to make the course challenging but race-able.

  • Comments: My goal for this race was a sub 5:00, and I finished the race 4 minutes slower than I did last year. I had a poor swim, some bike issues and bad run. However I am glad that it happened. One of the great things about sports in general is how people deal with adversity. When faced with a problem, a difficulty, annoyance and trial, your true self is revealed. It's really easy to get frustrated, angry, flustered and completely unfocused. And finally, it's very easy to just give up knowing that your goal will not be accomplished. As I fixed my wheel and hopped back on the bike, all I could think about was "Frick, I'm not going to make my time, all the training was completely in vain. " And then I saw a gentleman in front of me biking with 1 leg. At that very moment, I realized what I've always known in my head but had easily forgotten because of the bike mishap which is ...adversity is a moment for growth. Was I going to let this small issue be a source of negativity for the rest of

  • Comments: Ironman events are well-attended, well staffed and organized. They are the franchise "McDonald's" of traithlon, you know what you're going to get when you sign up for one --- the menu is the same, so to speak. Great volunteers, good support and well-organized. I do wish the official would have seen the girl with the headphones on both the bike and the run course though. Maybe they did and she was disqualified. I could have used some tunes myself. It's weird thinking that the next time I suit up for a tri it will be an ironman. I'm becoming more confident I'll be able to finish it and not be dying. I still have some training cycles to go through though. Bring it on!

  • Comments: Oceanside is one of the best races I've ever done. It ranks right up there next to Boston and Clearwater. I feel very fortunate to be able to race such a high-caliber event so close to home. The marines were great and supported the race in full force. Also, the Triathlon Club of San Diego provided almost 300 volunteers and had about 200 members in the race. Everywhere I looked, I saw someone I knew.

  • Comments: This was a well organized race with some of the best volunteers I've had at half. Many were very, very organized and orderly and enthusiastic. Many were Marines. I may give Marines a hard time from an Army perspective just cause I'm Army, but they had some support out there, and from those I asked, it didn't seem like a "voluntold" but truly "volunteer." I'm sure there were some incentives, but nonetheless, they did a SUPER job. The youth that were out there were some of the most enthusiastic. Overall, the race was timely, organized (could've had more athlete porta potties though), and the finisher medal is pretty darn sweet. There is a lot of experience that goes into putting this race on, and you can tell. It was nice hearing Mike Riley announcing as well. It is a big event, which means long waits--that does make something like Redman attractive, and I really want to do a Rev3 race. May or may not race Cedar Point this year....I'll be there in a Team RWB capacity (they partnered with
