  • Comments: Great race. Good organization. Challenging course and a great crowd (racers and volunteers). I'd love to come back and do it again some day.

  • Comments: Overall a challenging but not overly difficult course. The hills were enough to make you sit up and take notice, but not kill you. I love the silicone pint glasses they handed out as goodies at the finish line. Finisher's medal was also very nice, though I don't really care about them. Athlete food was pretty sparse, corn chips and a banana.

  • Comments: There were lots of aid stations and they were very long so not crowded. They had gatorade and water at every station and split them at most so the gatorade was first, the water was second, and in most cases in different cups. This made it pretty easy to know what you were getting. After about 5M they had vasoline and aspirin as well. The one complaint about the aid stations was they were not always well marked so at the start I sometimes didn't realize they were approaching and had to cross in front of a number of runners to get to the edge. There was lots of live music along the course and a number of spectators, but the sea of athletes far outweighed them.

  • Comments: I think it's important to do things that you will always know are just outside of your comfort zone. This race is that race for me. Austin has a lot of hills, a lot, and this race is hilly. But let's start from the beginning. Saturday we drove to Austin and went to packet pickup. Everything felt smoother this year compared to last; the drive was easier, the packet pickup was not as insane, and I felt calmer. I got all my stuff, we went to Whole Foods, then checked in to our hotel. We stayed at the same place as last year and we were not disappointed with the hotel. I unpacked our stuff, got my race gear together, and took a bath. We met Mollie and Jason for dinner early (around 5) and I loaded up on pasta, beer, bread, and cupcakes. Mollie and her family is gorgeous. We had a very nice dinner with them and she brought me a half dozen delicious cupcakes! It was an excellent surprise. Getting to sleep was awful, and I tossed and turned for hours. I never sleep well in

  • Comments: They had a better layout at the finish area in past races. I signed up for this race hoping to kick start my training that had been non-existent since last April. Unfortunately it remained non-existent until race day. I found that I have lost a ton of speed in that time but I still have residual fitness as far as endurance. I was about 50 minutes slower than the last 1/2 mary I did when I actually trained.

  • Comments: I got to Austin Saturday afternoon. We ate lunch, then went to packet pick-up. The traffic around Palmer Events Center was NUTS. The expo was nice, busy, lots of freebies. I got my stuff and we went to the hotel. Nerves, nerves, nerves. Just driving through the town reminded me of the hills. Oh no, what have I gotten myself into? I've never done hills. Shit, this is going to be tough. Like 13.1 flat miles wouldn't be? Right. We stayed at the Casulo Hotel, a neat little hotel just off 35 outside of the South Congress area. Beautiful, intimate, cozy. We checked in and unpacked. I got my race garb together, pinned on my bib, tag on shoe.. Then what? I felt idle. Idle means nervous and nervous means thinking too much. Rescue Remedy did not help. Hot shower did not help. The only thing I could think of that would help was a long run. And.. well, you know. I had one of those to do the next day. So, when in Austin, you go out. So we went out. I was so anxious

  • Comments: Great race with incredible crowd and volunteer support. Finishing with the Texas State Capital bulding at your back is very cool and spending the weekend in Austin is always so much fun.

  • Comments: They ran out of T-shirts at the expo. You check what size you want on the entry form, how can they run out? They knew how many they needed in advance. Cheap finisher shirts for half & tech shirts for the full??

  • Comments: This was a VERY well supported race! The packet pick-up was super fast, smooth and easy. There were lots of volunteers, lots of drink stations and lots of good stuff at the finish line. The only down side was that the race ended up starting 10-15 min. late, so we were getting pretty cold standing there after getting all warmed up. I would highly recommend the race.

  • Comments: I had originally thought about doing the full again (I've done it the past three years) but decided my training was not where it should have been so I signed up for the half. I was glad I did in the end. It's a tough half course that will challenge you, but it's a good course.

  • Comments: I'm really satisfied with this result--a 55 second PR. I had low expectations due to multiple factors above. Like my last half marathon in September, each mile during the race was faster than about any I had done in training. This gives me some confidence for an attempt at under 3:10 in Boston, and I can definitely see being able to maintain a pace in the 6:40s and breaking 90 minutes this year on a flatter course with more quality work in training.

  • Comments: I enjoyed this race last year, and enjoyed it again this year. They offered a 50% discount for active duty military, and I totally appreciate that and think it's an awesome gesture. They have great aid stations every mile, and some enthusiastic volunteers. The course is challenging, but it is doable. The medals they gave out are great, as are the shirts. Much better shirts than last year, both finisher and participant, and though I didn't get a tech tee this year cause I did the 1/2, my friend that did the full got a good tech tee instead of the huge things they handed out last year. I do recommend this race. Tanya and I are thinking that next year we are going to do the full PURELY for fun...like carry a camera and take pictures and just enjoy an easy easy pace (we'll both be off of IMAZ and IMFL) with no pressure to go fast, etc..just FUN. I would do that on this course. I do wish there was a little more offered post race--either for sale or for free. The "acclaimed" farmers

  • Comments: Austin is great if your a world class runner. It is super fast and most normal folks are on the sidelines. Pick another race if you're a rookie.

  • Comments: Great experience for my first 1/2. Very challenging race but fair except for that beast of a hill in b/w mile 11 and 12. Should provide a mental breakthrough for the upcoming tri races in 2008. Great weekend all around shared with great friends...highly recommend it.
