  • Comments: HFP puts on a simple race which I like. Their registration fees are so inexpensive - $100 for a HIM? Unheard of! A few problems from the git-go were the morning lines which meant a race delay. The one crucial bike aid station had run out of water during the second loop and was unmanned and several of the run aid stations ran out of ice. All the post race fruit was gone by the time the BOPers finished. The volunteers were super friendly and helpful, though, and the course was well marked. I have no complaints. It's 3 days post race and I'm still emotionally off kilter. Although I was able to put the panic cries from the lifeguards out of my head during the race, I believe they stuck with me and have attributed to my emotional state. The man's family and grandkids were at the race and he was unable to be resuscitated and I'm very saddened. I believe the fall left me shaken more than I want to admit. One of my goals for 2012 was to do two HIMs. One is done and I have the Rev3

  • Comments: Everything was torn down, no comment on post race events. There were plenty of drink stations on the run and ride, just no water on the ride. Not enough volunteers to do body marking, pass out chips or check people into or out of transition area. This caused the race to start 20 minutes late.

  • Comments: GreatBuckeye 2012 Half Distance (event) your day will begin frighting for a bike rack that turns into a free for all. Just on my rack there were so many bikes assigned that some bikes would not fit. They have about 7 different races going at the same time. The bike course is jammed with people riding 2-3 wide and faster group in packs working together. Do not worry about penalties though. 0 marshals on course to police the cheating. The race in a poor steward of the bike course as with zero enforcement the road was littered with bottles and gel wrappers that people discarded. Pre ride the course because it was not marked very well and you could easily cut the course if you are doing the half distance race. Unlike most professionally run races this one does not put timing mats out to make sure the course is not cut. As for cutting the course you will not know who you are racing against unless you know them already because everyone is marked the same way (a hospital wrist

  • Comments: It was $100, so there wasn't a lot of expectations here. But the lack of post race food, or lack of having it obvious was pretty bad. Volunteers were great, the 16 aid stations on the run were a lifesaver. Hats off to the other athletes though. So encouraging, especially when all I could do was nod or whisper thanks.

  • Comments: Even though I had an awful race, I'm still pretty proud that I finished a 70.3 in my first year of triathlons. And I placed in my AG, with a time that was over 30 minutes slower than my projected time. Bigger and better things to come in the future, as well as better decision making. The course is a great course, and HFP is a solid company. I look forward to racing here next year.

  • Comments: I love HFP races because they are able to keep the cost low for the common man like myself. A few small suggestions however: Port-o-john on the bike course, better mile markers on the run course, cold sponges on the run. Otherwise, a well done race by a class act organization!

  • Comments: One aid station on HIM was abandoned, and another volunteers were minimally helping other than sitting in chair watching.

  • Comments: A well run race. The only issue was that it didn't start on time. I've had a few thoughts over the last 48 hours since I finished the race. First of all, this is a distance that really needs to be respected. I moved from couch potato to runner to sprint triathlons to Olympic tri's pretty quickly. I finished my first oly within 6 months of being active. I've completed one century ride, many 70+ mile rides, 2 half marys, 3 sprint tri's, 7 olys and several running races in my 2 years since I began training. I've done all this without serious injury and I have never felt burned out. The transition between Sprint distance and oly distance was not that difficult. I figured the transition between oly and 1/2 Iron distance would comparable. This race kicked my ass. I had inflated expectations for my performance and of my abilities. I'm looking forward to my next 1/2 and also IMKY in 2009 but this has humbled me. I realize I have a lot of work to do. Another thing I've been thinking about is

  • Comments: Good Race - would like to see course changed back to 2005 with single bike loop and fewer out and backs on the run, but other than that good race. Finished half hour faster than last year !!!!!
