  • Comments: Bay to Breakers is one of a kind. There's a $25,000 challenge prize for the elites and so you do have a bit of a serious pro field (not that many big money 12K's out there), but this is really a community celebration. If you like to run and you value the spirit of a place like San Francisco, this is a race to do some time.

  • Comments: A fun race, for sure. You've gotta be in the right frame of mind though, as this is more a costume party than a running race. The people watching was awesome!

  • Comments: I'd been to Bay to Breakers a couple times before as a spectator, but never a participant. I was very surprised by how well organized it was (although I probably shouldn't have been since the race has been going on for 97 years). The race started right on time, and while there were certainly thick crowds, they weren't nearly as bad as I'd feared. Support for the race -- from spectators and volunteers -- is fantastic. You can even get a printout of your results just a few minutes after the finish line.

  • Comments: This is as much a moving block party/carnival as a road race. There aren't a ton of serious entrants, but the course is a nice cross section of SF, the spectator support is great, and this is a distance that isn't contested much.

  • Comments: Definitely a fun race, especially when done with some friends. Impossible to race it, unless you are with the elite folks up front, because the streets are pretty full the entire way. The farther you go the better it gets but it never clears out. Very pretty run and it was fun to run by the family on the Pan Handle of the park. Became a good chance to try out the new fuel belt which I was very happy with. Not only did it make it so I could avoid the super crowed water stations it made for a nice squirt gun when I needed it to. I was carrying mostly to get the feel for it and I hardly noticed it while I ran. I'll definitely have to do the race again although it seems to always be the weekend of the Memphis in May Tri which I want to go back to as well... decisions....

  • Comments: Whoo Hoo!!!! What a fun "race". What a bunch of whackos. Lots of costumes and beer and naked people. Kinda liked all the naked people, made things interesting. Definately more men than women were naked. Think I will have to do Bay to Breakers again even though i could n't even run some of the time due to the large crowd.1

  • Comments: This race is a must-do. There's really "two" Bay to Breakers races being run--the first is the actual footrace and the second race is the one with the pageantry, costumes, and freaks show. If you line up at the front like I did, you don't get to see much of the "second"-race; as you're running well ahead of it all. Anyway, I'll check out the "second"-race (costumes, naked runners, and freak show) on the post-race highlights which I've Tivo'd. I had to get back home to entertain guests this afternoon, so I hopped on the MUNI bus which took FOREVER (almost 50 min.) to get back downtown. By the way, you don't even need to pay the $7.00 special MUNI bus fare (which gets you a special little MUNI sticker to ride the entire MUNI system for the rest of the day; including, of course, the special buses to the starting line). I bought the MUNI sticker, but was able to walk right on the bus even with my sticker covered up by my windbreaker--and there was no one checking for it anyways. See

  • Comments: Disappointed that the high entry fees did not include any post-race grub, not even an energy bar. Paid $7 for a giant hotdot - uh, an "Italian Sausage." But hey, at least they were giving away free dental floss samples.

  • Comments: This race is as much social as sports oriented and participants need to be prepared for a lot of their co-runners to be there more for the party than the run. I saw only one Elvis impersonator but about 10 naked runners, one of them a woman. The costume runners were started after the rest of us, so didn't see too many of them. Big festival after the race. We grabbed some food, which we had to pay for disappointingly, and then hauled. The music wasn't due to start for 3 hours after we finished - which is when the course closes and all the runners are at the festival and we didn't want to wait. Race advertisers say about 60,000 people registered this year. I was the 1,964th finisher so it would have been a long wait for the rest. Official time was 1:09:55 but it took over 3 minutes to reach the Start so I think my time of 67 minutes is pretty accurate.
