  • Comments: Over all I like how the Pigman was run. Was not happy with the loops or how there was no shade on the run. However it was well run and on time. I may be back next year.

  • Comments: Liked the new swim course this year. Liked the new bike course this year as well. The run course was too exposed with no shade and needed another aid station on the dam out and back. Fell victim to the Pigman course again this year. My plan this year was to return to Pigman for some redemption after my poor performance there 3 years. Again was not able to put together the 70.3 that I know I am capable of. May end up returning to Pigman again in a couple of years to try my hand a third time. For now it is time to celebrate the fact that I finished inside 8:30 and be proud that I was able to finish to HIM races this summer within 3 weeks of one another. Time to rest, recover, rehydrate, and begin preparation for 2016 which will include a run at IM Wisconsin in Madison!

  • Comments: This is a small, strange race. A too-complicated swim course, 4 loops on the bike (open to traffic and over railroad tracks) and 4 loops on the run (zero shade). Not enough aid stations on the run and not enough cold beverages or ice. If you live in the area it may be a good "local" choice, but I won't be driving 9 hours to do it again.

  • Comments: This race definitely had a "smaller race" feel to it, but it had enough support and was fun. They really could have used a sign to direct people back towards the run start for each loop (I'm pretty sure I saw a girl go straight ahead onto a second lap instead of doing the short out-and-back part that you are supposed to do each time). That's my only complaint, though. The four-loop course for both the bike & run can be a tad boring, but the roads were in great condition and there were always people around so you were never lonely. Camping on site is a great option as well - the park itself is beautifully maintained.

  • Comments: This race was a lot of fun! The volunteers were SO NICE and helpful. At one aid station on the run course I called out for ice and they didn't have any. But someone actually ran to a different aid station across the street and got me a cup, and then chased me down about a quarter mile later. I had a great time.

  • Comments: If you're looking for a good bang for your buck, you can't go wrong with this event. My only criticism is there's no bike support on the course, or even back at transition. I know, I know - we're all responsible for our own gear. But we also all know that many events have support out there so we can finish. The volunteers are great, but the spectators are concentrated so heavily within the park, there's hardly any cheering on happening out on the bike or run except by volunteers at the aid stations (and they are great volunteers, by the way). I'll likely be back since it's only 2 hours from home and very affordable. Plus I have something to prove out on the bike course next time. And I'll be forever thankful for those anonymous spectators who helped me with my bike in T1 - whoever you are, I can't thank you enough!! I wouldn't have finished without you.

  • Comments: I was on pace for a sub 8 in my first HIM. My goal was 8:30 I finished 8:38 with a bum knee. I'll take it for my first half and come back next year faster and stronger. I now have a lot more respect for this distance and will work through the rest of this year and into next knowing what I need to do. The volunteers were awesome and they had plenty to eat and drink. My only complaint is that warm lemon lime HEED tastes terrible maybe a new flavor :)

  • Comments: all in all it's a well run race. the $90 entry fee is great in comparison to the $250 for ironman sponsored races. i'm a race director so i know how many finite details go into planning these. this was my first half and after this race i have a whole new level of respect for people who can do full ironmans. i don't think that is anywhere in my future....yet

  • Comments: I am just so impressed at the way this race unfolded. The organizers had all the important things set up and secured for us. The police, marshalls, and volunteers were ever-present and its a pretty good feeling knowing that you can just concentrate on your event and your effort and that you can rely on well manned bottle exchanges and intersections. With such a challenging course you would think that there might be more problems but race staff were constantly zipping by ready to address any problems. I strongly recommend this event.

  • Comments: Didnt get the opportunity to participate in post race activities but that was probably my fault due to my finishing time. Will continue to train over the winter time and will compete in another half iron distance race next year. Consider this race a success as this is only my second year competing in triathalons and my overall goal for the day was to finish the race. A learning experience.

  • Comments: I will consider Pigman again. I really enjoyed the race. The venue was tricky for parking, especially with the family showing up later. Well organized and very well supported. The weather couldn't have been better. Morning temps in the upper 50s, race temp in the 70s with some wind. The best weather that I could have asked for. If temps would have been in the upper 90s, could have been really bad.

  • Comments: First time at Pigman. I would consider again but it's not a definite. Awards and door prizes were going to wait until the last finisher was in, they were looking at 5:00-5:30. That's 4 hours after I was done, way too much of a wait.

  • Comments: Overall, I was extremely proud of my first HIM race performance. Before the race, I had told myself that 5:15 was my goal time, but I didn't think that was very realistic and so I was going to be happy with anything under 5:30 so I was elated when I found out I came in at 5:13:04. That being said, when I do this distance again someday, I know I can shave a little bit of time off in my swim, and a lot off in the run. I need to do more swimming, especially OWS to practice sighting more, and more bricks after long bike rides. My usual 2 mile runs after a 40 K bike ride just don't cut it for something like a HIM.

  • Comments: Love the race organization, the volunteers where GREAT. Negatives, bike course was very, very rough (borderline dangerouse in places). Personal negatives, need a bike mechanic at bike out and make the swim finish balloon straight for swimmers coming in.

  • Comments: Race was set up very well. Everything cleared out very quick. I would have liked to see them try and have something for the spectators to keep them occupied while we were out racing but that was very minor.

  • Comments: Love the event. if not for the support on the course I would have DNF'd. A drink station every mile with fruit pretzels h20 and heed all made it possible for me to limp home. I clearly have to put together more back to back workouts and figure out this sodium thing otherwise this is just not going to get any better. In the end It was worth the try. I will look to do another again.
