  • Comments: Well run race! Pamama City is a cheap, college beach town - not a nice, classy town like Couer d'Alene, ID. The bike and run course were okay, but not scenic like Couer d'Alene. Despite this, I am very glad I did the race. It is know as the easiest Ironman course in the U.S. and I agree with that assessment. Had a fun time hanging out with and doing the race with 2 good friends: Jim C and Grady C (and Grady's family)

  • Comments: Unbelievable day nothing like it to compare to.... pushed my physical and meantal ability to the limits...I may not be too fast but at 11:46 pm I still can say I was an Ironman and I told my coach (Freddie) that was the goal way back last year when I signed up for this trec....

  • Comments: This was my first IM, but will not be my last. My race experience was as good as I could have hoped for largely because I trained well, stayed healthy, and executed my nutrition and race plan as intended. Like many of you reading this report, I studied previous reports, forum threads, books, etc., basically anything I could find. I made the jump from Olympic distance without doing a half and it was largely my research that enabled me to assess and impletment the right training path and nutrition and race plans, stay healthy without overextending my body (which was important considering I tore my LCL while running my first marathon three years ago), and execute on race day. On top of training for this race, I got married in June. My wife has been very, very understanding, completed about 2/3 of the training with me, and was very supportive. I could not have done this without her support and understanding and the feeling of crossing the line with her standing on the other side of

  • Comments: I loved this race, and would like to do it again some day. PS - as I write this, I have already learned about Dorothy, who died 5 days after the race after succumbing during the swim at IMFL. It has been very sad yesterday and today learning of this. I love this sport, and the community of people. I know it's risky, and incredibly hard. Having said that, I am just very distraught thinking about Dorothy, her family, and kids today. Thanks for reading this long report, and reliving the day with me. Danny

  • Comments: Special thanks goes to my buddy Brent Johnston for all the help given race week, race day and all of the times we rode together over the past 12 months; to Dr. Gillogly from Atlanta Sports Medicine for understanding endurance athletes, the successful surgeries and the consults afterwards geared towards enabling me to train; to Mary Doyle, the best damn Physical Therapist in Atlanta - bar none. As a multiple iron-finisher, she knew what it would take give me back the range of motion needed to train for the race. To my coach Carole Sharpless, who made all of this possible by painstakenly tailoring a training program geared to my inability to swim and, during the beginning part, even run. Lastly, to Stephanie - my loving wife - who did double duty with our three kids so that I could have the time to train. I thought about her - and the sacrifices she made over the months - all throughout the day. The ability to finish was bourne as much from her efforts as it was from mine.

  • Comments: Great event. Its more than just the race, nearly a week in festivities. All well-done. In retrospect, the entire season is just as satisfying to me as the Ironman itself. I’ve enjoyed a lot of success and feel great about the level of fitness I’ve achieved. Both of these are strong motivators keep from hitting 200lbs again! I owe a big THANKS and WELL DONE to Coach Shane from SMS. That guy knows what he’s doing! He’s incredibly knowledgeable of the sport and really made the training plan work within some challenging constraints at times. He was always spot on with my race strategies and frank and to the point on my conditioning and limiters. I owe a lot to him (thanks Shane!).

  • Comments: This was my first IM. I had a lot of lessons to learn (and still do) about the distance. Oddly enough when the day was through, my worst discipline was my best feeling performance. I thought I did everything right on the swim and freestyled the whole thing other than very brief stints to get out of someone's way, go around the buoys or to sight a few times. My strength became my downfall with the bike, but I still put up a solid time. I was resigned to walking the marathon, but I did it MY way and on my terms, and still posted a sub 6 marathon. I never let myself fall into the drafting trap and raced with integrity and ethics. I thanked anyone and everyone who could hear me as my day would have been totally different without all their support. And I was blessed as my lovely wife did get to see me on the Ironmanlive video feed cross the finish line with my head and hands in the air. I may have been physically alone, but the love and support I had coming my way from many

  • Comments: Thank you to all the volunteers and to all my friends, new and old, for being my support crew and also reminding me of why we do what we do. I felt like Ironman Florida was the best venue as my Ironman debut. Hats off to everyone who crossed the line and to everyone who made a valiant effort. I haven't stopped smiling and to be honest, I haven't taken off my bracelet yet. I don't want too. I will, just not now. ;)

  • Comments: Good effort I think for first ironman distance race. I never felt in trouble and nutrition went really well so I have to call the day a success. I sort of had a goal of 12 hours without really having any idea what I could do on the marathon, so I was very happy with the sub 11:30 time.

  • Comments: BT rocks. Thanks to all. Tons of inspires. 3500 volunteers for 2500 athletes. You guys are simply amazing. I had people calling my cell phone seconds after I finished. Hell - some called to wish me luck when I was out on the course! Hahaha (You know who you are!!!!) NC BTer's rock! Thanks guys! I can't wait to see you at the NCTS this year...and some of you in a couple of weeks in the woods. :) I've got a wonderful family both near and far. Thanks for all your support, love, kindness, and sacrifice.

  • Comments: Hey, it was an Ironman. They provide a pretty consistent product. As for me, I am happy with how it all turned out. I met some goals, missed some goals, finished strong and all in all had a great time. Wish I could have met more of the BT'ers though.

  • Comments: I had talked to a 10 time Ironman before I left. He was so excited for me. He has only done NAS Ironman races, and I questioned him on that. He said it's more than just the distance, it's the whole experience. He knows if something happens on the course he'll be attended to. He can depend on them for nutritional and hydration needs. They take care of you from start to finish. It was great for me, but also my family and friends. They had the best time!!! I felt like a rock star out there. I can't wait to do another, and in fact my husband is excited to see what I can do...but not till 09. We didn't attend the athlete's dinner, but did attend the awards banquet, as I was in the top 5 for the Janus Charity Challenge (#5). It was a great evening, and I'm so glad we went. We got to sit with Frank Farrar (the 78 year old who has done 32, I think, and raised like $200,000 for his charity and his lovely wife. We sat at a Janus table in the VIP section, amongst the pros and race

  • Comments: I want to say that this is my 2nd ironman and I enjoyed it a lot. It cost a lot more then my first in more ways then one. First the time, I really trained hard for this race and it showed out on the bike. I felt so strong and it made me feel so good. That is or was my weak disciple of the 3 and now maybe my strongest. It takes a lot of time to train for an ironman and the only way to do that is has an understanding spouse to support you. The 2nd is the money, coming down from Connecticut the flight the condo, the entry, food, rental car, tri bike transport (which was nice), house/Dog sitter. It starts to add up and it gets to around $4,000 to do a race that’s a lot of money. It’s been fun and yes someday I will do another but I think this 45 year old man will stick to ½ or may Olympic distance races for a while. I will see what life brings me and go from there. This winter I will be looking for some running races to see if I can stay as fit as I am right now. I hope you enjoyed my race.

  • Comments: Overall, the race went about as well as I could have expected, all things considered. The water was great, and most of all, it never did feel too hot. I was really worried about that, coming from the already cold northland but it was just about ideal conditions. Really enjoyed meeting so many cool BT folk! A big thank you to the G8R's for their hospitality and a huge congratulations to all the BT'ers who perservered and finished the race. I was a little disappointed in the organization of the race here. Parking was an issue on race morning, kind of far away. They ran out of finisher medals for the people finishing toward the end and I understand the voluteers were handing out medals to everyone who crossed the finish line at the beginning...family members included. C'mon! Bike special needs bags drop-off was a hike too. And I understand the medical tent was grossly understaffed and unprepared. Mostly little things but I guess I'm spoiled by IMCDA. All in all though, it was a

  • Comments: Overall a great race and a great experience! The volunteers are amazing. I have the best family you could want and never could have done it without them. To anyone thinking they don't have time to do this, if it is your dream, you can find a way. I have some crazy training methods, but they got me through. I couldn't find a training plan to work, so I made mine up and had no coach to help. When I crossed the finish, I thought I would be really emotional, but didn't feel that much. It didn't hit me until 2 days later. It was Monday and I had taken off. I was at the grocery store in the frozen food section, and suddenly the enormity of the accomplishment just hit me. I almost started to cry right there. I thought this was a dream I'd never have the time to do, but now I am an Ironman!
