  • Comments: Even though this race did not turn out the way I was hoping it would I don't think I would change anything about it. It was an amazing exerience for my first HIM. When I set out to do triathlons 11 months ago I didn't know anything and now I have a 70.3 finish in the books. I learned many valuable lessons from this race and about myself which is going to just make me a better triathlete and a better person. Event Power does a great job with their events. The volunteers yesterday were awesome and I really felt bad for them as they had to endure the miserable weather too. At least we were racing. A big thanks to all the volunteers and the spectators out there yesterday in those conditions. I also wanted to say thank you to the members of my mentoring group the Asphalt Junkies. You guys are awesome! I don't think I would have come this far this year without all your help and suppport. I also have to say thank you to all the local LI triathletes some fellow BT'ers and others from twinforks

  • Comments: I learned a lot today. There are a lot of things I can take away from this race: 1. I learned, and proved to myself that my sub 6 hour HIM from last year was not an anomaly. It wasn’t just some freak PR that I attained because of IM training for a year. This is an important lesson for me and it is important to solidify the thought that I AM a sub 6:00 half Iron Man guy. 2. I think I need to figure out how to re-evaluate the way I train on the bike. I can’t continue to ride at 18.XX mph in training and expect that to translate to a 19.5-20.0 mph pace come race day. I have spent the better part of the last several years mindlessly pushing the pedals around in an effort to simply finish the day’s miles and help control body weight. I need to make sure that EVERY bike ride in the future has a specific purpose and I need to do more rides with more intensity. I need to figure out how to find Jorge’s plan this winter and follow it religiously 3. I need to get back in the weight

  • Comments: I have to give credit to the athletes doing the HIM distance it’s a pretty tough course and to do it twice well you certainly earned it. Also the volunteers’, especially at the water stops, where so enthusiastic it was really a great moral boost even if sometimes all’s I could mange was a thumbs up. The RD did an outstanding job w/ the 2 event happening simultaneously.

  • Comments: Like I said, I FINALLY put it all together at this race and had an excellent day. My goal here, in four attempts has been to break 6 hours. I knew, in my heart, that I could do it today, it was just a matter of racing smart. This is easily the smartest race I have had at MightyMan. I pushed hard on the bike, knowing that was my strength, but not too hard that I had nothing left in the tank after the first loop on the run. This really is the culmination of a great, great season for me. New prs in a 15k, half marathon, olympic distance tri, my first IM and FINALLY, a new pr in a HIM. All of the work and stress and time that I've put in this year has paid off in a huge way.

  • Comments: I had a great time. Montauk is an excellent venue for a race, the event was well organized and the volunteers were great. I was hoping for better conditions for my first half but hey, at least it wasn't raining :-)

  • Comments: Solid race. Good enough organization. Nice volunteers. But clearly a local race, not quite ready for prime time. I would have appreciated more fluid availability on the bike. The run course was marked strangely in some spots (arrows pointing in both directions over each other, running through rubble, cross-overs, etc.). The transition area was completely dark until five minutes before it closed (maybe they could rent a light or two). Even with all of those small inconveniences, it was still a fun race, a beautiful day and an awesome learning experience.

  • Comments: This RD has a lot of improving to do, this is not a cheap race and is tough logistically, but should be run a lot better. weather did not help, but it seemed like there was a lack of a plan "b". I will not nitpick details, it is not worth it.

  • Comments: Montauk is a beautiful town with georgeous views and natural scenery. It's a magical place, really. I do believe the Race Organization needs to improve in many areas though. For one, packet pick-up is the night before only. Which meeans for many Long Islanders, we need to drive the 1.5 hours plus out to Montauk (3 hours+ round trip) the night before, and then do it all over again 4 AM the next day. This year was even worse because when Charlie and I drove out to pick up our packets, due to the rain!, their computers weren't working and we were unable to pick up our packets. This is really ridiculous. The Race Organizers knew all week that it was supposed to rain on Saturday, and it rained all Race Day last year. They also need to have a Plan B for the rain when it comes to transition. The transition area was an ABSOLUTE MUD PIT. It was downright dangerous. Another area that needs improvement is the Water Stop on the Bike Course. There is count 'em ONE water stop on the bike.

  • Comments: My first HIM and I finished so it's all good. I have done many other races run by this organized (Event Power) and I think they do a great job. My only suggestion is some food (cookies, bananas, etc.) on the course. During the second lap I was starving!

  • Comments: Overall this race was very well managed and directed. The volunteers were organized helpful and friendly. It's a small little town but they really come together for this event. Road support was solid, couldn't believe all the locals out helping bikers on the route. Aid stations were great stocked with water, heed, coke and gels and the course is simply beautiful. I hope eventually they do a full IM here -if they did I would definetly go back! I had a ball!

  • Comments: I was very happy with the location, the way the race was run, and the number of volunteers for such a large course. I can't forget a very special thank you to my three ladies, Kim, Reilly, and Kelsey, who stood out in the downpour to cheer me on. I will do it again next year. I pushed myself a little too far for my first season, but I'm glad I did. Twelve months (hell, six months ago) I'd have called you crazy if you said I'd be writing this report. With adequate training volume over the next year, I don't think a 5:45 is out of my reach for 2009. Time to get some miles in these legs...

  • Comments: I was a little skeptical about the race when I saw the bike course and heard that all of it was open to traffice. I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised and would most certainly go back next year. They could use some more bottle exchanges on the bike, especially if it were a warm day. Maybe it's just me being spoiled by others races or not wanting to carry so many bottles on my bike.

  • Comments: This race was well marked, well run, the scenery is Unbelievable, volunteers and aid stations were a plenty ... but the difference between this race and an M-Dot race are glaring. There was only water, coke, heed and hammer gels at the aid stations: No gatorade, no food!! No bananas, powerbars, oranges, etc... For $235.00 I would've liked and could've used some solid foods at the last few aid stations. Granted there was all of these things at the finish line. Despite that, this an overall very well run event in a magical location.

  • Comments: Wow, what can I say? I did it. Finished a HIM in my "second season" - although my first season, I only did 1 sprint.. so I was happy. I was down about the crash, but in the end I was just happy to be able to get back on and keep moving it made it all worth it. The next day, I felt like I fell out of a tree. I'm pretty banged up - nothing a little time and advil can't fix. What a day - I guess this is what Ironman is all about. 3rd marathon in Jan coming up... and can't wait for next season! What a season.. I love this sport.

  • Comments: Going into the race I really thought I would be around 6:40 total time. After a good swim and faster than I expected bike I really thought i could get 6:30. After the first 6.5 loop I was on target time, but knew I couldn't keep the pace to get 6:30. Happy with my performance, will learn for the next one and continue to improve. I had fun, appreciated all the support and thanked many volunteers & police out on the roads. Oh & I had Snowgirl and Luv2ride on the bike and they kept me going. If I started to slow...I'd say "Come on Pansy" you can do this. (Hee,Hee). On the run I had Waterdog, RNC & Enginerd but after the halfway point I had to tell them to go ahead without me...as I was havig problems...they would never leave me if they were pacing me for real, but today I insisted they go on. Thanks to all! You BTers were all in my thoughts throughout the day.

  • Comments: My first HIM!!!! This is an amazing event and a great experience. I am very proud of how far I have come. It was amazing to see all of the people on the course and thinking about how I am now one of them. What made the whole day worth it was getting to celebrate with Madison and Cindy just before the shoot. Having my daughter there made this one of the most memorable moments of my life and so very rewarding. We got a picture taken of me running with Cindy and Madison at mile 13. I must have looked like crap, but I don't care, that photo will be one of my prized possessions. So many times, I have see the IM and HIM finishers on tape celebrating with their small children and today I got the chance to do it. I almost started crying every time I thought of her and thought of being able to share this moment with her. My lifelong goal is to be her hero and today, I felt like I was. I am a Half-IronMan!!

  • Comments: Overall this was more of an experience than a race- the weather was so ridiculous that I think it actually worked as an effective distraction from any pain I might have been feeling from the exertion. I really have to hand it to the volunteers who provided such great support in that mess- they were awesome. I would love to return on a better day.. Montauk is a beautiful place, and the course is really great.
