  • Comments: Seemed to be a lack of support on the swim course, but the support on the bike course was great - there were lots of people out there to warn about the sharp turns and slick conditions. Overall a very good race for racers and spectators.

  • Comments: I thought all the volunteers before and during the race did a great job. Thanks to all of them. Only thing I would like to see changed is some of the hard turns after downhills on the bike course. I heard several racers crashed due to wet roads and those sharp turns which is unfortunate.

  • Comments: Had one ironman staff yell at us for using the porta potties that were supposedly suppose to be locked but they weren't. I got to the front of the line and this ironman staff came over and actually yelled. He ended up letting the people who had been standing in line 15 minutes use them. They should of put padlocks on them and had them clearly marked otherwise. Rope them off. He was the same guy directing people to get down onto the docks. Almost yelling and like he didn't enjoy being there it seemed. Post race activities were not all that great I felt as the food tent was very small and the area to sit and eat was small too. I would enjoy doing this race again to see if I could better my time as well as to enjoy the bike course as it was fun going down those hills. Hopefully if I do it again, the roads will be dry. There have been people complaining that the bike course was not biker friendly as it is not closed course but I didn't have any issues with any of the cars on the

  • Comments: GREAT JOB VOLUNTEERS! What an amazing organized event! Despite sucking so bad I had a complete blast!!! I loved it! Everyone was so nice and so supportive. All the competitors were nice, all law enforcement was so helpful and all spectators with bells, hats, signs, were a MUST for me. So great to feel so supported by strangers! I would do this event in a heart beat again. Just train for the bike harder! Loving that I am a 70.3 ironman finisher! and as a complete novice, I dont think that 70.3 miles in 7.5 hours is so bad.

  • Comments: I thought it was a good race. I agree that it would be nice to have a closed course for the bike, but I only had to slow down once for a vehicle, so I have nothing to complain about.

  • Comments: This race is held on a beautiful course but ... a lot of it is open to traffic. There were points where I didn't feel real safe even with hugging the line and listening to police and volunteers. My husband volunteered at the med tent and shared that race officials had not ordered enough gatorade for the event and racers were not to be offered gatorade at the finish line unless they asked. In addition the race medical staff consisted of four firefighters, one medic, one nurse, a 16 year old kid, water, gatorade and cots. The fire department had an ambulance at the finish line that dressed blisters and road rash. There was no plan to deal with the heat. The race medical was what would be expected for a smaller event, for a Ironman branded event it was surprising to see little medical support. The advertised aid stations were to have water and gatorade endurance. I was surprised to see gatorade endurance listed. I asked 2 race officials at registration and they confirmed gatorade endurance

  • Comments: This is a great and beautiful race. I loved the bike...Loved it. I need to learn how to pace the bike and, well , just learn to like running. I would recommend the race it to others who are good with hills. It is my personnal worst 1/2 IM time ever, yet at the same time was my personnal best (and first 1/2 IM) since having kids. It will be a while before I do another distance event but I know I will be doing a ton of run training this winter. Maybe a few sprints and Oly next year and save another 1/2 until 2012.

  • Comments: This is what I could do on the day with the conditions. I had really hoped for a sub 90 minute run, but I knew it wasn't gonna happen in the heat. All my training leading up to this race indicated I was fully capable of it. I ran a 38:16 10k a few weeks back. A 1:02:58 for a ten miler last week and both of those were at elevation. This is honestly the hardest half iron course I've done. This was the fastest time I've ever done on this course and still 25 minutes slower than my PR for this distance. But even though it's not a fast course it's an honest one. I really didn't see one organized draft pack all day long. Gotta love the hills. I'm sure I'll be back.

  • Comments: Everything was spot-on except for the lack of sponges and fruit on the run course. The volunteers were great and there was a lot of locals spraying water on people who wanted it (THANK YOU!) The course was spectator friendly which made it nice to pass your loved ones often.

  • Comments: I noticed a few subtle changes (for the better) this year. Last year, it was more evident that it was, at one point, an independent (non-M-dot) event. This year, things like the style of the apparel, the gear bag and the fact that awards ran 5-deep made it feel more like the other Ironman-brand events I have raced. The announcer (and emcee for the mandatory athlete meeting) is very good and the event has a very professional feel.

  • Comments: Volunteers were AWESOME! Spectators were great. Saw spectators on bike and run courses. Hoses on the run were definitely appreciated; some were manned by volunteers and some by Lake Stevens citizens. Disappointed by no fruit on the run course. Nice course with T1 and T2 within easy walking distance of each other. Race day saw record breaking high temperatures; I think under normal temperatures this would have been a really fun race. As it was, I did have fun on the swim and the bike, even though the bike took me a full 30 minutes more than I estimated. Run sucked mostly because of the heat and there was little shade on the run course, but for people used to heat, it was fine. There was pizza at the finish, but I was in no condition to eat pizza. Expo was really light on vendors. Finisher's medal was nice; would be great to have more finisher's gear.

  • Comments: I LOVED this race. It was set up very well and there was great support. Other than the last part of my run I had a great day. I raced within my physical abilities and just had unexpected issues on the run. The residents of Lake Stevens seemed very supportive of this race. There were residents who were shooting people with water guns and hoses during the run, which felt great! This was a challenging course and I'm looking forward to racing it again next year. It was great to race with my uncle and the Rosenlofs this weekend. Also, thanks to Dean and Kim for celebrating my birthday dinner after the race :)
