  • Comments: The volunteers were incredible. The crowd support was incredible as well. The experience is indescribable. I learned so much training for IM. This was my 3rd season racing and it was much different than the other 2. I learned that you can't be the best at any one discipline - you can be good or really good- but you have to balance the 3. This was really hard for me to get past because I always push myself to be the best in every area of my life. I did get past it though and I feel that it made me a better person. Yes I know that it took me a really long time to get this race report done. Almost as long as it took me to train :)

  • Comments: Before the race I had talked myself into never doing another Ironman if I did not finish (and I was already signed up for Placid). I had told myself if I did not finish I wouldn't even go to Placid. Anyway I did finish and I think I could have finished with a better time if my head was more into finishing and not about IF I finish. Now I know I have to keep working my butt off on the bike...I want to finish Lake Placid. That will be my 4th Ironman to finish.

  • Comments: Okay, here is where I'm going to be critical and list the things I didn't like about the race. Overall I think the organization was great, but there are some things I want to get out there for those considering doing wisconsin. 1) There are only two hotels in downtown madison. This means you will rely on your car to get to the terrace. I had to drive there and park once on thursday, three times of friday, once on saturday and then race day. pain in the butt. spent an hour and a half on friday driving between my hotel and the race venue. Crappy. 2) I wish I hadn't attended the dinner/prerace meeting. I was bored and on my own. (DH had to stay in the hotel room with our dog). The food was gross. The salads and veggies looked about as appealing as dog food. They let us eat for about an hour before even starting to talk. The race meeting didn't start until after 8! Then leaving downtown was a nightmare, I was stuck in the parking garage for about an hour. I don't think they

  • Comments: I'm just so happy about this year's journey and race. I wasn't going to sign up for 2013, but at noon last year when online registration went on I had a mini breakdown and knew my decision not to do it was not the right one. I called josh and told him i was going to register and he said "ok babe" and so i did and felt instantly better. SO glad I did - BEST YEAR EVER!!!

  • Comments: Awesome town, hard course, bumpy pavement, great fan and volunteer support, great weather. This was a 50 minute PR on a harder course but with better weather than Louisville. I need to try a flatter course to get more competitive. Overall it was a great performance for me and I felt I made huge gains over last year. Huge thanks to my Mom for making the trip and helping out so much and a big hats off to my friend and training buddy Rob who destroyed the race with a 9:29.

  • Comments: This was a nearly perfect end to three straight races at IMWI. The icing on the cake was seeing my training buddy Chris have a stellar day with a 10:15, cutting about 50 min off his PR!! The fun course, volunteers, and spectator support along with proximity to my family make IMWI my favorite race, by far. Unfortunately, I'll be watching it from afar next year. Going to miss it.

  • Comments: I am determined to get my time into the 14-hr range. Would have been close this year, so I know I can take another half hour off next year to succeed. Just gotta put more time into it, but had an especially stressful summer. Fortunately no broken bones or other health issues for this race!

  • Comments: I have kids, a bum shoulder, a husband who trained for an IM at the same time as me. I am content. I know if I focused on this, I would improve and improve, but that's ok. This was more than enough for me. I am at peace with how it all went and my time and my performance. I loved this race and am happy with this season and I have an idea for how the next race is going to go down. And that is what it is all about.

  • Comments: Truly the best Tri experience of my life. The venue is absolutely incredible and I cannot recommend it enough. The bike is tough, but hey it's an ironman what do you expect. The run is epic with a capital epic. So many fans calling your name throughout the whole course. I felt like a rock star the whole run. There were several times during the bike and run that I seriously started to sob. I just couldn't believe that I was doing an Ironman. So much work to get to this place. I just couldn't believe it. There's so many great things that have come out of this. My wife caught the bug and started doing Tri's this year. She lost over 60 lbs. and completed several sprint Tri's. Next year she's moving up to Oly's. I have a whole new group of friends in the Tri community that are so supportive. I've got so many BT friends that are the nicest people on earth. What a great great feeling!!! Awesome Awesome Awesome

  • Comments: Without doubt I can say this is the most demanding physical endeavor I have ever taken on. The amount of time, work, sweat & effort that was involved is something I will never forgot. There were a ton of people who helped me in this multi-year journey and a special thanks to all of them including the fellow Donkeys and triWI member who swam, biked & ran with me. And lastly and most importantly, my wife Colleen who supported me through all this nonsense and all my crankiness..especially leading up to race day! Also a great job to Ironman & WTC for being a class act putting on a great race in a great city. I loved everything about Ironman Wisconsin and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Comments: Volunteers were great, thanks to all who helped out. If you've ever thought about volunteering at an Ironman, I strongly encourage you to do it. I had 2 great years of volunteering - bike handling in T1 and finish line catching in 2010 and body marking in 2011. I also want to thank all who supported me during training and the race itself. Team Ewen truly is the BEST SUPPORT CREW EVER!! Barb & Scott did a great job on site and Trisha helped with posters and updates from home. Thanks to all who were on the course cheering and calling out athletes names. It really does make a difference. • Comments: As always the WTC did a great job with this race. The volunteers were amazing. I was told the spectator levels were down this year. Even if that was true there were still enough to make each participant feel like a rock star. It was an awesome experience to see my wife, sons and two sisters during the run. My friends Craig, Amy, Calvin and Karen always seemed to pop up when I needed them the most. Thank you! During the run I got to meet several people who were not only supportive but inspiring as well. Seeing fireman Rob during the marathon is always inspiring and I was fortunate enough to spend about 15 minutes of the run with a young lady named Ingrid. Ingrid was in an automobile accident a few years ago and suffered a broken pelvis and broken neck. She was told she would never run again but she was doing the IM anyways. She did finish and I hope she was able to receive as much support in return as she provided to me and the others she met during the race. Coincidentally

  • Comments: First: thanks to all the volunteers and fans that I encountered at IMWI -- you were great. You helped to make the race something special. In addition to the point about preparation above, I think that I am just not ready for IM. I am going to take (at least) a year off and focus on shorter distances, and then we'll see.
