  • Comments: It would have been nice if it had started on time because the buoy blew away. Also, I wasn't a big fan of all the road construction along the bike course, but it was nice to have our own lane for the most part.

  • Comments: Swim was well marked and monitored for safety. Bike course was well marked and monitored for safety. run was sometimes well marked and other times not...plenty of aid stations but I saw no porta potty on entire run course, although others said there was one at 2.5 and 10.5 mi mark. Not a very good selection of post race refreshments. No scale at med tent to check weight change.

  • Comments: My mind set going in to this race was really good and I was not going to give up no matter what happend unless they put me on a stretcher. It was very hot and there was about a 20% DNF on this course and after all I went threw on my last race I had something to prove to my self that I could make it no matter the conditions. I do not think that in my mind there was one part of me that thought that I was going to give up and stop. I pushed on and was as strong as my body let me be. I know that I could have done things a little different but we learn and we move on and try to improve on the next race. I can tell you that I am happy as can be that I did this race and finished my first HIM even though the very hot conditions that we had. So I say congrats to every one that did this race.

  • Comments: Meh. I'll be doing Redman next year instead. Course itself wasn't challenging but the heat was nasty and the route was just stupid. I don't mind loops but the random out and backs and random circles just to hit the distance were just silly. Then having no IVs was no bueno! I honestly felt this race was much harder then Buffalo Springs. Talked to Michael after the race and he's not a climber and he agreed, Buffalo Springs was easier. He and his wife both commented on the fact that despite it all I was still smiling on the run course. Not including relays, I got 12th woman overall. Not too shabby considering.

  • Comments: Need to coment on event start time. The weather conditions were bad. Visibility was low an dteh bike course had to be changed. Start delay was due to safety so it was a non-issue. I've heard the RD take a beating. I have only done 2 of his races. I can see him being abrasive, but given today's conditions, I think he did a good job. And speaking of today's conditions, it REALLY made me appreciate any volunteer who showed up today. I thanked each and every one of them.

  • Comments: Why does Jack have to be so MEAN?! I agree with others - post race was a little lame. However, I took almost the entire time, so at the same time I'm glad there were still people around when I finished! The Volunteers were awesome and I always had an aid station within a reasonable distance. Definitely felt like I would have lots of support if I suddenly crashed or collapsed from exhaustion.

  • Comments: I'm gonna have to be honest. This was one of Jacks poorer races. The overall race was PHENOMINAL. Great aid stations, and having Gatorade endurance on the bike course was amazing. But the post race SERIOUSLY lacked. I've done/been to this race 4 out of the past 5 years and this was a significant decline. First off I didnt get an actual race shirt because all they had left were XS and XL. Ester told me I'd get a finisher shirt the next day. Well I didnt. I was told since I did the relay I didnt get a finisher shirt, So I stole/took an Aquabike finisher shirt since I technically did the aquabike. Thought that was BS. The awards were by far the most poor awards they've ever had. The past years they jack has given an event shirt, a finisher shirt, and normally a finisher mug. (plus any age group hardware, which year before last was a NICE glass paperweight in the shape of Texas w/ your place ingraved) This year jack didnt give finisher mugs, instead of put "1st Place or 2nd Place or

  • Comments: The race festivities afterwords were not that great. For all the flack that Dallas Sports University (formerly Dallas Athletes) has taken, they put on a far better race from an entertainment and cool down perspective. Of course, the fact that I was basically a walking zombie afterwords probably had something to do with my perception. I don't think I'll be doing this one again though. I'd like to find something with at least some shade... it was like running in the Sahara dessert.

  • Comments: The experience of my first HIM is one I'll never forget. Especially now through this novel of a race report! Ironhead always puts on a good race, and I'll never have a second thought about signing up for one put on by Jack. What he did considering his accident last week is very admirable. While I came nowhere near my overall goal, I really believe I could've come across in the 5:40's had I not taken a wrong turn and had a normal, maybe even below average run. But this was really just a training day for the Longhorn HIM, and ultimately one more step on my way to becoming an IRONMAN.

  • Comments: The race was organized great but the RD need to calm down. I knew I was there early and did it on purpose. I know this is his personally though. Not sure what my next step is from here. I would like to do another HIM but the training was getting to be alot so next year will probably just be sprints. I will try and do more though and work on speed, this year was about endurance.

  • Comments: I can't coordinate three friends coming over to watch the game and get the food/drinks right so the fact that jack does things so well impresses me, It's comforting to know that he is watching every detail to make it safe

  • Comments: This was just a training race for me, I was instructed by my coach not to race it. I also was only doing the Aquabike because of a healing ankle injury. I had fun, but was bummed about my ranking in my AG...but it's also sort of an irrelevant number

  • Comments: In hindsight, Wow I completed a HIM. The swim and bike went well. My nutrition plan let me down and my run turned into a walk. The good news is that I wasn't sore the next day, or even the next. I guess trial and error are how you figure out nutrition. I am glad I made this mistake here and not in Nov at IMFL. Initially I was bummed, but I am over it. I had fun, I learned a ton (my 3rd Tri) Had a great run today and have a long ride planned tomorrow. IMFL look out!!

  • Comments: I set no goals for this race but to finish. I had only trained weeks or so after doing my first Oly, so I knew I could complete it. Sub 6 hours and top half of the finishers is way better than I expected. Better management of my run nutrition and transition area and who knows what I could have done. All of my milestone races (1st tri, 1st Oly, and now 1st HIM) have all been Jack's races. They're all very well run and very safe. Some people gripe about his rules and dictator-ish personality, but it works for me. Next stop - Ironman...

  • Comments: This was a nice local race, close to home. I'll definitely do it again. Thanks to the BT jock strappers: my wife, swatson, tri_it_cajun_style, DerekL, jcagg90, Comet, Tri_Take_Me_Away, Chippy, Doughboy, sebjamesm, and Tracy (sebjamesm's wife). It's always motivating and just really nice to see and hear supporters.

  • Comments: .06 seconds! Are you kinding me? So close to breaking 6 hours. Still, it was a PR Half Ironman for me by 11 minutes so I was happy. I needed this race for some confidence heading into my last 53 days of traning for IMFL. This is a good race as usual by Jack. I just wish he could shorten his speak before the race so we could start as early as possible. If you want a race that is hot windy and flat, this is the race and/or series to do (Ironhead Tri Series- Metroplex Sprint, Ironhead Oly and Prarieman Half). I even have a classic shirt to say that I have completed the Tri Challange! That's how it's spelled on the shirt.

  • Comments: Okay, not my most stellar racing day. But...without going TMI on everybody too badly, I had my period, I had GI issues, I hadn't specifically trained for it, and I had planned to use the run as my long run for the week. All that considered, I couldn't ask for much more. We lucked out on the weather...overcast all day long. Good training day for me..I think I learned some good stuff about pacing and effort. And I am really not sore at all. Ask me tomorrow. The race itself was well run. The Race Director is known to be kinda mean, but I didn't think he was that bad. Maybe it's the military in me...but I don't mind my-way-or-the-highway or rules are rules as much as other people do....And the post-race spread was pretty good!
