  • Comments: this is the Oregon championship. Lots of fast people. Probably not the best race as your first race back. Very, very competitive field.

  • Comments: It wasn't the fault of the race organizers that it was unseasonably hot. like 25 degrees higher than average. They actually imposed a race cutoff time because of the heat...anyone who started the run after 12:00 was only allowed to do a 5k because of extreme heat. One thing I wish is that they would have pushed the start times earlier in light of the heat instead of a cut-off time. My wave started at 8:36 and the first wave was at 8:00. I think they could have started at 7:00 or 7:30 to give the runners a little relief. I started my run about 11:15 and it was already REALLY REALLY hot.

  • Comments: compared to same race in 2014 - took 2 minutes off the swim time, 30 seconds off the bike for a 22.3 mph split! Both transitions better than last year (T1 took off 43 seconds, T2 took off 13 seconds). Run was 1:41 slower than last year but the heat really made for a hard run this year so still happy with the pace. Really felt it in the glutes post-race and not surprised as I felt I was working hard on the bike, something to work some strength training on. Really happy with the results and great way to start the season!

  • Comments: Always a good event. A great turn out with lots of really talented athletes, probably the most competitive field I've been in. The only negative I have is that the second aid station on the run was right at the turn around. Should've been back about a half-mile from the turn around so runners could get two stabs at it!

  • Comments: I had initially registered for the Triathlon and not the Duathlon. A couple of weeks before the race someone close passed away. I was having troubles getting the time to get out to the lake. I could not find out what the water temperature was going to be so I switched to the Duathlon thinking it would be better to be safe than sorry. Of course the water temperature was fine and I was kicking myself for not switching. But I had a great race and plan on doing an Olympic Triathlon in the near future.

  • Comments: I thought this was a great first Olympic for me to do. I wish my stomach would have cooperated better. My goal was 2:30 so if I would have had a better swim and could have got some food in I think I would have made my goal. It is hard to complain about 2nd in my division on my first race though.

  • Comments: Great race, gave it all when I wasn't even expecting to finish. Maybe next year (or later this summer) I'll get the PR I was shooting for. Injuries are a PITA! Blue Lake is a fun race, and this was even more fun with all the teams vying for the NW championship, great to see PTCers out there on the course as well! I especially LOVED the beaver tails on the OSU Tri Team race belts. Hilarious.

  • Comments: This is good race. Well staffed with volunteers, flat, etc. I question spending $80, and I might consider skipping next year. I had one goal- to finish- which I did. I believe I finished in under 3:30, which was a secondary goal. But the training for this even and the performance has made me question my future goal of a half ironman. Not sure i have the time to train for that event in a manner that would allow me to finish strongly.

  • Comments: Very muddy conditions. Well run race. Volunteers were somewhat subdued due to the conditions they were working in. Basically huddling up to stay warm and dry as possible; don't blame them especially the ones out on the bike route. The volunteers on the run were wonderful and cheering.

  • Comments: Running continues to be my biggest hurdle, but I have put it in perspective... No running ever to 5k's in sprints last year 12:40 / 12:55 / 12:58 to 1st 5k of 10k this year ~11:51 and then I ran another 5k and my final pace was 12:23, so that's doubling the distance and decreasing pace by >30 seconds/mile in a year. I still need to lose 15-25 more pounds so who knows what I can achieve over the course of this year! I do think that switching to running as much as possible and every other day has helped quite a bit recently - hopefully i'll be ready for a solid run come HIM time. I like Oly distance way better than sprint - can't wait to race again! Oh yah - 1st in my division - do I get hardware if i'm the only one?! ;) I didn't stick around to find out.

  • Comments: I've been pretty happy with the events at Blue Lake, but this time I wasn't so impressed. About 1.5 weeks before the event I wanted to change my entry from AG to Athena so that Dave and I could start in the same wave. I emailed and received a confirmation. At packet pickup it still wasn't changed so I changed it again. The next day it still wasn't changed so I emailed again. Then they still managed to mess up my finish time. I fixed it onsite and it was STILL messed up later on. I also noticed that numerous other people were given the wrong color swim caps, so there was mass confusion at the start trying to get people into the correct waves. To top it all off, they are "going green" and no longer give out finishers medals, yet for $80 they only give you a crappy $5 tshirt. Overall, they still put on a decent show, but I'm not feeling that you really get your money's worth anymore on this one...

  • Comments: This is one of the best races there are in terms of organization and volunteers. The volunteers are so fun and helpful. It was a great race for the season opener. Since this is Tri NW team club championships, I was very happy for my top 10 finish!!! It is more than I expected!
