  • Comments: I can say I had a humbling lesson taught to me in SOMA, one I am not soon going to forget. I just hope I can learn and grow from this and not make the same mistakes again!! Great race, great venue. Looking forward to coming back (without imploding!!)

  • Comments: Great race but just wasn't my day. Even if I didn't have the stomach issues, the heat would have slowed me way down. They didn't have ice on the course for about 1/2 the run. They should have known since they knew how hot it was going to be. Hard to cool down with luke warm water

  • Comments: It was a good race. The course was flat, but we had some hot conditions on the run. It was up over 90-degrees towards the end. The swim was calm, but slow in nasty "fresh" water. Post-race food good and healthy, but quantity was limited.

  • Comments: Great race, great venue, great volunteers. My only complaints are as follows: - The T shirt didn't have any distance or anything saying how far the event was. For this being my first 1/2 Iron distance, it would have been nice if the T shirt would have said so. - Food for supporters. There wasn't any. Our wives and kids had to bring their own food in and for being out in the heat for 6+ hours it is a long day. Food for purchase on the grounds would have been great and would have made it much more enjoyable for them.

  • Comments: Had a blast. Very well run event, with well stocked aid stations. Bike course could use some straightening out, but they did a good job with what they had to work with. Went heavy on the salt on the bike, and think this paid off pretty big on the run. Yet another race where I go heavier on the salt than I'd normally plan to, and end up having a great run. Add me to the church of salt. I'm yet again a believer in going heavy with this. Overall, this race was also a good confidence boost for IMAZ next month. Hoping I've addressed my demons from last year, and will be able to have a significantly better run this time around. 25 days till the big show!

  • Comments: All-n-all this was a great race. I beat my time in both the swim and bike and know I coud have done so much better in the run. But it is what it is... Bike; nutrition only four gu's all day, I finish my Infinit in both bottles but dumped my thrid to replaced it with water. Wow, tasted so good.... Run stayed with 8oz of XOOD and switched between water and coke, it actually kept me focused and happy. My wife who was/is due in November was there with our daughter. With all that walking around it must have triggered something becuase later that night we ended up at the Hospital to give birth to our second daughter 7 hours later... So the day after SOMA my daughter was born. Boy Im tired.. This will be my last 70.3 HIM. I like the Olympic distance better.

  • Comments: Thank you Red Rock for the oranges and ice! Besides trying to get rid of some of the u-turns, the only other thing I'd recommend for this race is to have sunscreen available at one or two aid stations. I sure could have used a little more toward the end of the day. Otherwise, great race, spectator friendly.

  • Comments: Overall, it was a great day. I knocked nearly a half hour off of last year's time, and met my goal of coming in under 6:30. I also learned a valuable lesson for next month. I really need to take the bike easy so my legs aren't dead by the time the run starts. I got everything out of this race that I wanted to: a half iron PR, a great training day, a practice run in Tempe, a lesson that should help me at IMAZ, and an opportunity to see friends. Can't ask for anything more than that.

  • Comments: LOVED THIS RACE! At first I thought it was too expensive, but having done the race, I think I got what i paid for. GREAT VOLUNTEERS! Well marked course, nice shirts, visors, and goody bag! The only thing i would change is to add the distance to the medal.

  • Comments: I always enjoy this race and this year was especially cool because there were a lot of the Cool Kids out there! Some of the peeps set PR's and some people did their first 1/2 iron race, but everybody did great!

  • Comments: Overall, a great race, well organized, well equipped and supplied aid stations. Course was fairly easy to follow despite all the turns and u-turns. Lots and lots of volunteers that did a great job! As I've been told before, I totally agree that it is a HIM beginner-friendly course, lake swim, and fairly flat bike and runs. Highly recommended!

  • Comments: I've always said that as I move up in distance I gain more and more respect for the sport of triathlon and what it take to be an Ironman. I started in triathlon with that goal in mind but this race humbled me in a way. I had a great performance but I gained so much respect for what it takes to go long. I'm excited for another year of training and racing and I think I'll assess my Ironman readiness after next season.

  • Comments: Wow - where to start... The last two weekends were the culmination of a year of work. Literally, not a single day passed where I didn't think about Pumpkinman or Soma. I have to admit that there is a slightly empty space now that they are both over. However, that space will soon be filled with something else, possibly something bigger. Looking back over the year, it has been filled with countless training sessions, most of them unremarkable on their own. A few stand out (the marathon, the 100 mile ride, a few others), but very few have any individual significance. What you hope all along is that when they are all woven together, they represent a tapestry of preparation that allow you to have the race that you hope for. I think that was the case for me. I don't remember all of the training, but it all ended up being important and went into making the last two weekends successful. I also had wondered (or obsessed, depending on your point of view) about scheduling my two biggest

  • Comments: This race was a 50 minute improvement over my time last year and a PR at this distance by 40 minutes. Needless to say I'm very happy with my improvement.

  • Comments: This is a very well organized race, that provides a big race feel, while offering lots of attention to everybody. Be sure you know what you're getting into (i.e. weather, course, etc) but they deliver on everything they promise, and I would easily do this again. Perfect way to end your season in you're on the west coast.

  • Comments: For my First HIM is was the best race I have ever race, what a great time to peak. And the Slip-n-slide finsh was the best.. Training with ESKTC and to of my other friends really help out alot. I wont do another HIM unless I can run 10 mile which wont happen. I will stick to Olympic distances from here on out. Even thought I didnt reach my gaol of 7 hrs I was very pleased on how I did and how I felt.

  • Comments: The course was great with plenty of volunteers. I did great to my ability until the run. My mind was strong, I just really had bad stomach and knee issues. I was proud to get in under my time of 6 hrs!

  • Comments: This was a great race, even with the challenges of the bike course, it worked out well. It was amazing to be out there the same time as the pros. To have guys like Hoffman and McDonald blow by on the bike is too cool, and Katie Ellis rocks! :) This was my best race ever.
