  • Comments: 70 seconds - I wanted to be 70 seconds faster than last year to break 2:30. Well with the swim being short that was not a problem but I figure I was 3 minutes faster than last year. I was faster in every segment except T2. Given the 10 days prior, it was a huge success - would love to be on the AG podium (well there was no podium) but the time was the goal. I have hard rating this race for a multitude of reasons; I have made this an A race on my calendar. I actually rested and did what for me is a true taper (planned and unplanned) . It fits well into our family calendar (end of school the next week so it frees me up some for the summer time with less training stress) plus it is one of the few Olys in the state. The venue itself is not bad to race - I counted less than 20 cars on the race route this year and that felt high! The swim is nice and tends to be wetsuit legal even in June. The run is well not so fun but could be so much worse. The road in and out of the venue (which

  • Comments: The racer is a good one - its out in the country so little traffic on the course, The bike course had some roads that were tough. The RD did warn us - one one road I was heading downhill where I usually charge; in this case I coasted focusing on safety. My three complaints: 1. Mark the run course with miles please. 2. Need to have a water station at the turnaround on the run- 3. If possible, more post race activities. Good food and drinks but really not much. Probably because of the remoteness no vendors wanted to come. We heard someone got hit on the bike and hope everyone is ok.

  • Comments: This a very good race - its out in the boondocks which helps. Unfortunately the Raleigh Half came on top of this weekend and really affected the race. My hope is does not affect the race because I enjoyed my experience a great deal Great volunteers, good course.

  • Comments: Kerr Lake is a great venue and has great volunteers. Love the flat, fast course. I just wonder why it doesn't draw more participants. It's well-run by a well-known company, so I don't think it's marketing. I was surprised to see less than 200 start the race.

  • Comments: This was a nice race by Setup, especially with the energy the volunteers brought to the run course. The Kerr Lake area is a nice facility with a clean beach and clean water. I felt the swim was longer than 1500, but that seems like a tough thing to judge. I also overheard a few people with GPS say the run course was long after the race. The roads on the bike course were 50/50 - some were great, and some were in need of a pave. I'll have to think about signing up for another Olympic, now!

  • Comments: This was a great race. Clean water, fast bike course, good run, well stocked aide stations and nice volunteers. Post race there was a misting tent and Feshly made subs with fruit, chips and soft drinks. My only complaint was the bike rack rows were too close together. I'm looking forward to returning next year.

  • Comments: Kerr lake was my first Olympic Triathlon. I am glad I could do it with friends. Roger Church was especially helpful since he has been doing triathlons for a long time and has done this particular race about 6 times. My mantra for this race was : "head down, heart up"(Thanks to my friend and yoga teacher,Ann). I needed a lot of heart to finish this race. When I started looking at my watch or eyeing a potential competitor, I gently reminded myself, it was all about heart!

  • Comments: They had sandwiches and fruit after the race which was nice. I waited for the prize giving, but wow 2hrs in the blazing sun to get a a little lunch cooler thngy was not worth that. Oh well it was my 1st race in 40-44 and so i figured I would go to the awards.

  • Comments: Set-up always does a great job. This was my first Try development series race and it was as well done as the NCTS race, though less crowded. There was still ample competition at the front of the field as my percentile rank shows!

  • Comments: I had my first race back on Sunday (6/1). Kerr Lake aquabike: 1500 m swim and 40 km (24.8 mile) bike. The week before the race, I tapered back on my training. I didn’t think this would be a big deal since my overall training volume has been fairly light, but I had extra energy all week. I don’t like tapering. Tuesday before the race, Daren (my triathlon coach) and I practiced entering and exiting the water, donning a leg, and hopping on the bike. It’s a good thing we practiced this a bit because it turns out I needed more practice at speed-leg-putting-onning. Don’t worry, I practiced this more in my apartment in the following days. Climbing quickly out of the shower and hopping over to my leg to see how fast I could put it on then getting on the trainer to see if it was comfortable only reminded me that triathlon is a ridiculous sport. By the time Saturday rolled around, I felt relaxed and ready to go. Packed up my stuff, checked and double

  • Comments: This was an above average, fun race. A good course. Would be nice to extend that first swim buoy out a little so that the traffic jam would be minimized. Definitely doing this race again next year.
