  • Comments: The swim course is nice and the bike ride was really enjoyable. A lot of nice scenery with some little hills thrown in. The run course was very boring out on the highway, and some more aid stations would have helped. A two loop out and back would have been better I think. But it was well put on and well staffed. Some great volunteers and good crowd support.

  • Comments: The race was done really well. Everything was pretty clear and there were plenty of volunteers to keep things running smoothly. There were also lots of racers. But where I was, congestion wasn't a significant factor. I would recommend this race to anyone and it will be at the top of my list for subsequent years.

  • Comments: I probably won't do this race again, but I am glad I did it once! It was pretty organized and there were plenty of very talented athletes there! They didn't have much at the expo (if you even want to call it that) and there wasn't much in the town to speak of. It was decent countryside and everything was very accessible.

  • Comments: For my first 70.3 and only my third triathlon overall in the first year of doing these, I was very happy with my results. Definitely have areas to work on but that just serves as inspiration during workouts. Sights set on future races.

  • Comments: This is my 4th Chisago HIM and also one Chisago sprint in my knee recovery year. It's a big race but well organized. Photos are T1, T2, T2, start of run and end of run. I was 3:04 faster than last year, even with the extra mile on the bike. I was slower on swim and bike but made up for it on the run. I won this AG last year but was 2nd this year by 7:19. 1st place guy beat me by 9:15 on the swim.

  • Comments: best race to go to this year. There are plenty of volunteers here every year. the race is very organized and well managed. I personally was 19 minutes faster than last year. With the bike being a mile longer and it being much windier. also it was about 25 degrees cooler, so the run was not nearly the sufferfest as last year ( but my physical shape helped with that also) it really is an example of how every race is a race unto itself. even same races from year to year can be enitrely different. I am happy with my performance. My goal was to break 5 hours. I did not reach that goal, but was pretty close. I did not rest for the race and am very motivated to take my training to a higher level in quality/speed for the races to come this year.

  • Comments: I won my AG by 1:52 so that was nice. Beer mug was the award. It was hot, it was humid, it was Chisago. I felt I was prepared but did not execute my plan very well on the run. Can't blame it all on the Garmin, I need to understand my pacing/effort better even w/o the Garmin.

  • Comments: This was a great race and I would do it again for sure. I felt there were plenty of water stations, and although they didn't have quite enough nutrition (no fruit or salty snacks) there was everything I needed. This was fun and I might do it again next year, maybe this time with a little more advanced notice.

  • Comments: I'd give this race a B-. It was well organized, with plenty of super nice volunteers. But there were some problems. The swim bouys really messed with my swim. There were no porta potties anywhere on the course. (I had to find a tree to duck behind on the bike course.) Most importantly, while there were plenty of aid stations on the run, they only had water, gatorade and hammer gels. A race of this distance really needs better nutrtion available on the run course. Oh yeah - minor complaint - but the announcer for the race was really annoying.

  • Comments: Overall i was very impressed by the amount of aid station on the bike and run. the volunteers were great. also the residents who put out sprinklers and hoses on the road was amazing. I am grateful that it was overcast most the race. It really got hot later in the day. I beat my square lake time by about 3 minutes, and sq lake is a shorter distance. so overall i cant complain. I do think i am evaluating whether i want to do HIM distance though. 5 hours of an event feels a little long to me. I am already registered for square lake in 2 months so i am doing that. But who knows what the future will hold. I enjoy racing more then just enduring and event. also the food after was very disappointing. that cold coke was the best ever, but who wants cheese and dry turkey wraps with cheese after a HIM.

  • Comments: The number of water stations during the run was OUTSTANDING! It was necessary, but you usually don't get this. People putting out sprinklers for the runners was much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Comments: I actually like having a designated transition spot, reduces stress and the need to get to the race too early. Ice at the water stops was great, and a pool ice bath was very nice at the finish. Got started a little late, and they ran out of some food, but I got chocolate milk and a few grapes. Course is tougher (more hills) than expected.

  • Comments: More swim BUOYS. Really super bummed about the swim. It's ok, I'm thankful to have had the experience I did, I learned from it. But, it's still a bummer. I take the fact that I had 3 pr's for the day as a personal victory... Bike PR for HIM distance, run PR for HIM distance (even taking into account the slightly short course...) and I suppose BEST of all is that I still PR'd my HIM distance by over a minute. I learned that I can push myself past what I feel is my comfort zone and still pull off the times I know my body is capable of. The mind is powerful and I think your attitude has a lot to do with it and how you deal with race day stresses and unplanned events. I generally enjoyed the whole weekends events. The race site is decent and I knew what to expect from racing 2 years ago and the boys doing the kids tri last year. This year there were weather issues and changes to a variety of things but the event company did a fair job of dealing with them and keeping things going.

  • Comments: Buoys were a JOKE. At no point in the swim should you not be able to see anything - if this company works in tri in this area, they know that the worst that can happen is have tons of fog. They needed 1/3 more buoys.

  • Comments: Race organizers run their age groups according to day-of age. Then they report a revised version to USAT with USAT age. Its messed up. However, for this race, I was 9th in my age-group whether it be 35-39 or 40-44. Great race for a half-iron first-timer.

  • Comments: Disappointed I could not finish the run the way I wanted to. I definitely had a shot at 3rd but 1st and 2nd in AG were both at 4:44. Very happy with my bike. I had an OK time but not what I was hoping for. I felt with work on bike I could break 5:00 again this year. Shit happens. Barb had a tough swim but great bike and not so good run. Scott was happy with his times. We went out for burgers and beer with Joe Ryan post race and had a good time.

  • Comments: Only complaints were that the racks in transition are too tight and the aid stations on the bike. Was advertised as having stations at mile 29 and something like 45, but the first was at mile 20 - not even sure when the second one came along. Problem is trying to determine when/how much to drink based on the course and what I carry. I just like having an accurate plan for nutrition!

  • Comments: This was my first-ever 70.3 (WOOT!), and I'm thrilled with how well it went for me, despite the crash :) The race is an extremely well-run race event, start to finish. Organiztion & communication was excellent. The volunteers were plentiful & very helpful. Would highly recommend this race to others.

  • Comments: I have my issues with this race - namely they can't seem to get the swim and run distances right. Last year the swim was short, this year I think it was real close. However the run is still short. It would be nice if they could find the .4 miles somewhere... But, I thought the run course volunteers were outstanding. The aid stations had tons of water, gatorade, and ice. Plus lots of residents out there with garden hoses which really helped! I even had one volunteer offer to go to her car to get me a coke! I declined but I appreciated the offer.
