  • Comments: I felt this was a awesome race. Its challenging and can allow someone to really excel if they put forth a good effort. In other words the reward to effort ratio is excellent. The swim is a challenging swim, do not take this one for granted. In these warm pacific waters you do not want to spend too much time with feet on the ocean floor as there are lots of stingrays. I got nailed as did at least 6 others that I personally seen getting treated.

  • Comments: 2015. This was my first Tri and this was a great venue. Very well organized, good location and facility, plenty of volun-tolds and proceeds go to support a Marine Corps charity so win-win. Very forgiving course for first timer. No elitist attitudes from other participants. Lots of fun.

  • Comments: MCCS always jacks things up but the Marines that volunteered were awesome. There are several venues on base where a triathlon could be held. San Onofre is perfect and the waves do not try to kill you.

  • Comments: i had a lot of fun on at Camp Pendleton, I'll be back, maybe for the olympic distance. this was my first sprint distance. I think i like the longer race.

  • Comments: Well organized and all of the soldiers that volunteered tried as best they can to help out even with little knowledge of what triathlons are. People were very friendly and encouraging.

  • Comments: My only real complaint was the way the run course was laid out. The Marines were awesome -- on time, helpful and encouraging -- but I had a pretty rough day physically.

  • Comments: Race was very well organized w/ lots of volunteers (lots of Marines) and the aid stations were a nice touch if you choose to hydrate off the course. I had an absolute blast running this race. I would say it is good for beginners and it had decent size field (~1k entrants), so it was cool to see lots of different bike setups and transition layouts. They also have civilian, military, mtn bike, athena/clyde divisions and awards. Huge trophies for o'all and AG winners. Tech tshirts and bike skullies were nice for all participants also. Free FRS energy chews pre-race.

  • Comments: It is a well-organized event. The swim is very challenging - especially if your wave gets hit with a set during the entry. The bike course is not easy with rollers and a steady incline to the turnaround. You do get a chance to recover coming back down and then the run is flat once you get up from transition to the flight deck. It is kind of an odd course as it just winds around service roads and parking lots on the base. It might be nice to have them set up an out-and-back along the beach or something instead.

  • Comments: My second year doing this race. Very well organized, fun course, challenging for a sprint. Always a good crowd, and a unique environment for a triathlon. Missed last year's time by a few seconds, which was a bummer, but hopefully I'll be back next year to beat both times.

  • Comments: I enjoyed the race. The soldiers were great and it was good to see them on the course. The beach was beautiful and the course wasn't too hard. Just remember to get there early to set your stuff up because it's a long way from your car to the transition station.

  • Comments: I will do this race every year. The Marines do an amazing job and nothing is better than a 60 dollar entry fee. There really aren't a lot of pre or post race events, fine by me. It's a great race and I'll be back.

  • Comments: There is no water at the transition area, and it's a LONG hike up to the finish area. Remember to bring plenty of extra water before the race.

  • Comments: Well, we all know the Marines run a great race. Sure, there are no splits, but you know that going into a Pendleton race so what can you do? I think the course is great, and I do enjoy the somewhat odd distance with the longer bike leg. Overall, they are really consistent and do a nice job. I just wish that there were better arrangements for spectators. It would have been nice to see my husband before I hit the water, but he was stuck on a hill far above me. It was my in-laws' first triathlon, and I felt bad that they missed out on seeing transition.....it's a fun place to be!
